New Highway Code changes

They usually are to people with average IQ
You know if you have to explain that something is a joke it’s probably not very funny.

I’m all for a bad taste joke, I’ve seen Jimmy Carr a few times and you can’t get much funnier bad taste jokes than he does.

What you wrote was just shit on all levels.

'It is not the dramatic change some parts of the media are suggesting. Many drivers and cyclists will already have been doing most of this stuff anyway.'

Hackers you are spot on except the bit about not using cycle paths seems a bit odd and giving way to pedestrians waiting to cross at junctions sounds like an accident waiting to happen

When your sitting on a cloud playing your harp there’s not much point saying a little book said it was OK

If you cycled along cycle paths you'd understand just why many cyclists won't go near them.
We have cycle highways running along many main roads, they painted them blue, painted tarmac means it's lethal when wet.
A lot of cycle paths are on pavements, surprise, surprise they're often full of pedestrians, I'd sooner take my chance on the road.
I have day lights on front & back so I'm very visible whatever the hour.
There's a new pecking order finally, the most at risk are given priority, as it should be.

Well for many years cyclists did use roads, it’s only recently that councils have decided to increase motor vehicle congestion by reducing road space for the benefit of cyclists and now you’re saying they’re unusable. It all seems illogical to me. If you think there’s a new pecking order on our roads do you think cyclists should wear a tabard with a unique identifier on them and they should have compulsory third party insurance like all other road users are obliged to have?

I didn't say they were all unusable, just nice to not be forced into battling with pedestrians as to who is using a cycle path on a pavement.
Why should cyclists wear a tabbard, do you as a pedestrian?
Pedestrians walk across roads, they don't have third party insurance.
Ata aatime when we should be getting as many peopke as possible to stop doing short journeys in cars the last thing you want to do is to make it more expensive/difficult to hop on a bike.
You can still sue a cyclist/pedestrian if they damage your vehicle.

There's a point to increasing vehicle congestion, hence LTNs, it eventually forces people to reassess their car use and leads to traffic reduction and cleaner air. Just unfortunate that in the 12 months or so that it takes for the reductions to filter through that you have more congestion and poorer air quality.
LTNs work in most places, just that there's an hysterical backlash against them at first with people claiming that ambulance times etc are longer, in the main this has been proven to be be bollocks.
There are of course some cases where they probably don't work.

Forget pedestrians they’re not in or on a vehicle. All road users are required to obey regulations rules, if a cyclist breaks the rules as things stand they can’t be identified where a motor vehicle can be. I can’t see why anyone would object to that. As for insurance you can put the same argument for all road users except of course it’s easier to identify the owner of the vehicle if it has a number plate
It will take a major culture change to get people out of their cars, remember outside of the large conurbations there simply isn’t a viable alternative

How would you identify the cyclist? Number plates on bikes arent going to work, not until the manufactureres make bikes with a universal fitting. Literally nowhere on my road bike to put front and back number plates due to having two front and two back lights, bike computer and toolbag.

People outside of larger conurbations also hop in the car for a 2 minute journey to the shop or a few miles to work.
Bus and train services may be shit but a bike would still work.

A tabard with a number would identify the rider. A two minute journey back from the shops with 6 carrier bags is tricky on a bike, going to work in posh gear when it’s freezing cold and pissing down even for 2 miles isn’t an attractive option for many

You're wasting your time trying to justify using a bike to an anti-cyclist who is too lazy to get out of his car and off his arse. There's always an objection to any point you raise.

Isn’t Hackney objecting to the point I raised? My arse is now physically incapable of riding a bike because it’s attached to the rest of me.
Maybe you should read posts a little more dispassionately
