New Highway Code changes

So you’re blaming pollution levels on people that don’t emit any pollution.

Interesting.

didn't mean to - I'm also a cyclist

Just highlighting the consequences of poor traffic management

Ideally there should be proper cycle lanes and not the death traps we have now that masquerade as cycle lanes

not going to happen of course but I do think efforts should be made to keep traffic moving - instead, we see a proliferation of traffic lights which, of course, do the exact opposite

Abbey lane is a good example of this - Asda supermarket opens and a new set of lights get installed

Well entitled is an emotive word we could get into all sorts of discussions about that. I tend to think of it as good manners, if I was walking slowly down a street and people wanted to go past me I'd move to the side and allow them to go by
Is it good manners to suggest putting targets on cyclists backs presumably so cars can aim at them?

Maybe if cyclists didn't push in at the front of queues it might be easier to love them.

I often wonder what might happen if a skinny person tried to push in at the front of the half time beer queue

Can you elaborate on what you mean by this.

Both pedal cyclists and motor cyclists will weave their way through traffic (often passing on the left when there is no lane) to get to the front of the line of other vehicles.

Get rid of bikes and cars.
We should walk everywhere.
No problems then.
I've already started my walk to Devon, for my Easter break.

Yes it’s called filtering, and it is completely legal according to the Highway Code.

Maybe it would be better if more people knew the Highway Code in the first place?

“The Highway Code says “when filtering in slow-moving traffic, take care and keep your speed low

Hopefully the daft fuckers will keep off the paths.

Especially now they’ve taken to having flashing, blinding lights on the front.

That refers to two lanes of traffic becoming one nothing to do with suicidal nutters squeezing down the inside of cars just to get to the front

Maybe you should spend a little time reading the Highway Code, and brushing up on good manners

“If there’s one thing that I like
It’s a burn up on my bike
A burn up with a bird up on my bike
Now the M1 ain’t much fun
Till you try and do a ton
A burn up on my bike, that’s what I like
Just for kicks,I ride all through the night
My bird hangs on in fright
When I do the ton for kicks
When my bird decides to turn up
I’m off to have a burn up
A burn up with a bird up on my bike
When I pass a little scooter
I blast him with my hooter
A burn up on my bike, that’s what I like
We meet the other ton-up boys at Fred’s Cave every night
We just drop in to see the birds and sometimes have a bite
We spend a couple of hours just tuning our machines
With our black leather jackets and our oily greasy jeans
If there’s one thing that I like
It’s a burn up on my bike
A burn up with a bird up on my bike
Now the M1 ain’t much fun
Till you try and do a ton
A burn up on my bike, that’s what I like

There are things called bike boxes in front of the traffic lights for cyclists to move into. Quite often I can't because there's a car driver who has decided to use the space.
Being fair it's normally full of motorcyclists or black cabs.

I’m not saying everyone should stop using cars, or that everyone should start cycling, I’m not stupid enough to tar lots of people with the same brush, unlike yourself.

38% of British journeys under 2 miles are made by car or van.

Nobody is more entitled to use the roads than anyone else, until people realise this there will always be division/aggression.
Yawn

cyclists are increasingly becoming smug and selfish and think they are in some way more entitled to use the roads than the rest of us.
Says man who thinks he's more entitled to use the road than cyclists.

You're all so angry. Chill out a bit, slow down. It's not good for your blood pressure.

It’s the same as motorbikes when they squeeze between the cars, it’s called filtering and perfectly legal.

Anyway on to the new rules, why is it no lonher a requirement for cyclists to use the cycle lane if there is one? Surely that cycle Lane is their private domain safely away from other traffic and presumably there to speed up the roads for motor vehicles as well as cyclists? It should be the opposite, if there’s a cycle lane the cyclists should be legally made to use it, again for their safety.
