Mental Health/Be Kind

With the pandemic and it’s wide ranging impact I feel like the effects to mental health are going to continue for years after and permanently in some cases..
Lockdowns.. closures of businesses.. schools closed down.. prioritising covid.. many other things too contributing to why peoples mental health can have deteriorated.
The divisive nature of politics another one I guess.. people speak to each other in appalling ways seemingly when they don’t have the same opinion.. was society always this divided and broken?
Feels like mental health is somewhat brushed under the carpet but the truth is suicide is the biggest killer of men under 50 in this country and I would imagine the majority of people on here have been affected by it either directly or indirectly at some point.

Might be worth giving people a break from time to time. You just don’t know what battles the other person is fighting. Whether it’s someone who got your order wrong, someone you’re arguing with on a message board, a homeless person or any other relevant scenario maybe place yourselves in the shoes of the other person before dishing out a volley of abuse.

Recently saw a widow whose husband took his own life over addiction problems tell her story and spread the word. She was still being relentlessly trolled by people on social media. It’s like compassion is non existent in some quarters.

I remember when I first went on the old Bentleys I was in awe of the way people came together for each other. Whether it’s the plaques for the dearly departed or simple acts of kindness like taking things round for people if they were struggling to get about and I’m sure there’s plenty of kindnesses going on behind the scenes not advertised on threads.
I even posted a suicidal thread once in a moment of extreme low and was absolutely overwhelmed at the warmth of response. I was a little embarrassed at myself but I’ll never forget the kindness shown (even if secretly a chunk of them just think of me as a fat cunt who doesn’t know what soap is 🤣).
Seems hard to believe when looking at some of the stuff on here now but there we are.

Anyway I’m rambling on a bit so I’ll get to some sort of point.
If anyone is struggling with their mental health please try and speak to someone before it’s too late. There is help out there and sometimes you just need someone to be there to listen to you when you’re at your lowest.

Samaritans number is 116123 or text SHOUT to 85258 they have trained staff who are there to listen.

I’m happy for anyone to send me a private message also if they want. I can’t promise to make you better but I can try my best to help you in any way I can like so many have offered with me in the past.

Don’t let yourself get fobbed off by the system too if you find yourself in an emergency. Go to A and E if that’s what it comes to. Covid isn’t the only emergency going on.

Sorry for the long post. Take care of yourselves.

Shane , you could always sit in your back garden and down 4 or 5 large gin & tonics before breakfast to re-create that Bruges experience in the main square and think back to that magical away trip.
And think of Yorkfox banged up in that bunk bed in a youth hostel room with 3 young German birds too scared to get up in the night for a piss after a session in Charlie Rockets!
Magic times!!!!!

Great memories. Every single one of those European trips was wonderful in their own way.
No pics from Bruges because I was mostly off my face but this was a nice pic at Porto. Credit given to the owner YorkFox.

Happy memories - apart from the score.
That must have been the night before the game.

Shanetko, always had you down as one of the goods uns, sorry to hear you struggle at times but keep on keeping on.
If you do need someone to talk to ffs avoid me like the plague.
A friend called me at the start of all this distraught, telling me his best mate had took his own life the previous day. He then told me he had only spoke to him 30 minutes before he killed himself.
So I said, fuck me! What did you say to him?!?
I was only trying to lift his spirits.
We’re ok now, he invited me to see Johnathon Pie at the Derngate and had a great night.
