Mahrez

A few years ago not long after he moved to Man City there were a number of threads about Mahrez and how he was getting on. My opinion was that I didn't care as he was no longer playing for us.

I still stand by that however you can’t fail to notice he scored both last night in the 2-0 home win v PSG in the CL semi final, and 3 of their 4 goals in total to see their passage to the final.

He’s obviously doing something right. Fair play to the lad.

Although I hated the way he couldn't wait to leave us coupled with all his antics I'm actually quite pleased for him - it's taken him a long time to claim a regular place in a very good team and when he's playing well its quite a sight to behold

At times last night some of Man Citys speed and accuracy of passing was like watching a computer game

We've still got a long way to go to match them

Onwards and upwards

The most skilful, naturally gifted player I have ever seen wear the royal blue.

Far from the complete human being, but a great player to watch, and glad that that talent is being recognised at the highest club level

I noticed Pep has finally managed to get him to cover back too, something we could never manage so he's probably improved his all round game since he left us. Not to mention won a shed load more than he would have with us. Not so good that he's in the world of real housewives of Cheshire shagging Ashley Wards daughter.

Yokofox has a nervous twitch when he is playing these days...her hair-trigger response means he is known as Fuck Off Mahrez in this household.

(I have long since let it go...alas, Yokofox, not so much...)

A side note on last night - as the wheels were coming off PSG's wagon, Jenas was heard to say - teams are a reflection of their manager.

Correct. But he then simply said Potch would be "disappointed" rather than drawing the (obvious to us) conclusion that they are TOTALLY in the mould of their current manager...a serial bottler and sulky twat.

Men against sulky toddlers last night - just as well it was a half-decent ref...in the hands of Moss or similar it could have been carnage.

Reminded me of the Chelsea v Spurs game when we won the league. PSG players acting petulantly like the Spurs players were, like spoilt kids not getting their own way.

totally agree, that was a classic potty-chino team performance.
petulant red cards, surrounding ref, heads going all over the place, manager on the pitch "calming" his players but actually winding them up even further.
he possibly won't win the french league either....although 3rd place might be beyond him this time.

World Class player who by the looks of it has took his game to a higher level. Most talented player we have ever had and wow that touch is still sublime

Spot on Eggs. I thought the same when Jenas said it, although he obviously didn’t mean it the way we all picked it up. PSG were ‘at it’ right from the start going down like they’ve been shot ( that Neymar is one
nasty arrogant narcissistic piece of work), and trying to get every Man City player booked. At the end another petulant South American got himself sent off and the rest decided to go all in. Herrera went down, rolled and got up in the same movement when the decision went against him!! You could see Pep was thinking get this match finished. Did you notice the ref blew the final whistle as early as he could. Thank goodness he was a tough cookie.
PSG and Poch. What a lovely marriage. They fully deserve each other

PS. It’s sometimes forgotten as a player he was one of nastiest dirtiest players around. You don’t pick up 13 reds in your career being a disciplined centre back.

Poch apparently wants an investigation into the ref because he told a cpl of Paris Spurs-Germain players to "Fuck Off" and get out his face.

Obviously it's subjective but RM is second to me behind Esteban C., he never gave up on the pitch; RM did, often.
He was team man who knew about resonsibility to fans, club and manager, RM never thought beyond himself.
And EC was pure class and never got the praise he was due in his on field coaching and dodging relegation.
Sorry, Riyad, good player but mardy twat...

Really Oadlad you're comparing arguably the most talented player we have ever had to Cambiasso. Absolutely no contest there.

The two moments that for whatever reason stand out for me was when we broke against Man U, Mardie Mahrez ran past the ball then waited what seemed like 5 minutes to lay it of to Vardy to score - and the one against Chelsea when the snivelling Arab screwed Azpilicueta into the ground he turned him that many times then planted it top bin - top three best player - bottom three worse character.

To right no comparison whatsover.

Cambiasso is the most decorated Argentinian player ever, a legend of the game.
He maybe that but he didn't achieve here half of what Mahrez has achieved with us. But hey opinions are opinions. Personally I think there have been several players here than Cambiasso.

People tend to forget that the club promised him if a decent offer came in for him he would be allowed to leave. The club didn't follow through on this promise to him whether that was right or wrong I don't know. What I do know that this guy you could tell was always destined to win trophies.

RSAM says he was promised that. I prefer to hear both sides of the story, particularly when one side is RSAM.

My two would be the nutmeg of Wohlscheid in the Stoke game that set up Ulloa’s goal, with the defender doing the fabulous “where’s he gone?” spin round; and then the Cruyff turn that put De Bruyne on his arse, the very last act of the home 0-0 against Man City, also in the title season. For that last one, the match was done, the ball was on the half way line, so he just did out of sheer joy, because he could. Ridiculously talented

Was it the Villa home game in the title winning season where he did a turn on the edge of their area that put 3 of their defenders on their arse. Beautiful

If you read me again you will notice that I believe that there is more to being a top player than the moments of magic which we all remember.
Like playing for the team and never failing to put in a shift. And not moaning to the media or making a tit of yourself in airports.
It was only RM's undoubted ability which enabled him to skive in games and consequently increasing the load on others.
And he knew it but the really top players don't use that excuse and combine outstanding ability with a top work ethic.
Pep seems to have achieved that with him but it was not there when he was here. Possibly because he knows PG will never tolerate it and there is more competition for his place. Even saints have flaws...

It was - it’s on YouTube somewhere
That was brilliant

Yeah but what was your valuation of a "decent" offer. £25million was derisory and deserved to get a rebuttal. So therefore was the promise really broken??

Did Vichai tell you that or did you read it in the Sun - the club has never admitted they said this, whereas this story fitted Mahrez‘s narrative perfectly - I wonder where it came from?
