Reminder that she pleaded guilty to inciting violence.

She advocated murdering people.

That advice was from her own lawyer.
It resulted in a 31 month sentence, rather than a 42 month one and mitigation reduced this to 12.4 months.
It's a shame that she didn't seem to think she had done anything wrong, in police interviews and to her probation officer in the days after her arrest. She did do something wrong...she has expressed regret since...Her posts was very poorly thought out, for a 41 year old woman with experience of life. The judge gave that some weight in sentencing.
But that loss of one of her children at a very young age, in the context of the tragic and highly-publicised murder of young children; should definitely have received more weight.

“Mass deportation now, set fire to all the fucking hotels full of the bastards for all I care, while you’re at it take the treacherous government and politicians with them. I feel physically sick knowing what these families will now have to endure. If that makes me racist so be it”

Is the above, what you would consider stirring up racial or religious hatred - or likely to do so?
Is it a "hate crime"?

By the way, I've said before - I don't think prison time was necessary...

You might really dislike someone or a group of people, but wanting them killed certainly in the manner she describes, takes an elevated level of hatred. The sentences she typed seem thought-through, & not really a spur-of-the-moment thing.

Is her crime better or worse than having child pornogrophy or attacking a man in the dead of night after going out on the piss? Do you think she is worse than Hugh Edwards or Mike Amesbury?

She deleted the tweet. It is ridiculous that she was sentenced to prison for hurty words while much more serious offences go free. Who do you think would have read that and taken up arms as she is a middle class surburban housewife? We all know the reason and it was simply because she is an easy target. She was coerced and scared into pleading guilty only to then be made an example of.

I could find 100 different tweets/posts much worse than that from all spectrums of society in probably less than an hour online. Of course we already know that only a handful of people will be arrested for these tweets/posts and we know what demographic they will be.

Unless you think actual violence is better than writing about violence. This was in response also to the horrific attack on 3 girls in Southport. BTW it turns out he was an Islamic terrorist. And he has just attacked a prison officer with boiling water. Feelings were running high and while it was unpleasant what she said this should also have been taken into consideration.

Further to this the prisons are at the point of bursting. Is this a good use of public money to put her in prison and let violent offenders out early? Use your common sense by answering rather than trying to hide behind the ridiculous sentencing guidelines. If you can not see it then I know who the fucking idiot is.

As an aside, the question around why innocent people, unconnected businesses & premises were attacked has never been satisfactorily answered.

We've got as far as "Feelings were running high". And that's it.

Deflection once more. I will ask you too. Do you think the sentence she received was just? Do you think hurty words on a post that was quickly deleted is worse than child porn or beating someone? When someone makes threats to kill in the street, most get away with a caution or a fine yet 3 years for a quickly deleted post. Is that fair and just?

Why if she has received 3 years for a hurty post are we releasing violent and or sexually convicted criminals out early?

In answer to your question, I honestly don't know about the law to say whether the sentence was just or not - perhaps the best thing would've been not to say it at all. There's an element of doubt in the way she phrased her message, so deep down, even she seems to acknowledge it's not going to be her finest moment.

You are not sure that a mother with no previous convictions who wrote an inflammatory post and swiftly took it down deserves 3 years in prison?

You are not sure whether or not she deserves to be in prison more than someone convicted of possessing the worst grade of child porn or a violent MP who received NO jail time?

The level of idiocy in this post makes my head hurt.

Why does everything have to be left vs. right? It's about a crime and the punishment for that crime.

She committed a crime. She admitted to it. She received a sentence pitched inside the boundaries for the offence.

You can argue about sentencing guidelines if you want. I'm sure everyone has their own views on sentences for different crimes. You won't find two people that agree entirely.

Honestly, it's tiresome just how angry some people are determined to be about everything.

She wasn't jailed for 2 years, or 31 months.
She was jailed for 12.4 months.
It's in the court documents.
Regardless of that error in the video above - she shouldn't be in prison.
