Don't know if anyone new Jeff Sharp, who owned Sharps Bedrooms Furniture ?
Just had a phone call from his son telling me he died last week. Jeff was described in the press as "Britains Biggest Conman", l heard all the stories over the years from his son. He did the Hoover Flight Scam, were Esther Rantzon helped get him nicked. Prior to that he ran the Film Extra fraud from his office on East Park road. He once had the CIA arrest him in the Channel Islands for another illegal get up..
I knew him but not well, but he was some character and was fearless. I was telling his son for years that he should write a book, because he used to make millions, blow it or get nicked, then earn it again. I heard some of the stories of him throwing petrol over some one and all that. I looked for a photo of him but all l found was a video of him at Violet Krays funeral.
He once "almost" embarrassed me in a posh hotel in Barbados, that me my misses and daughters had just arrived at and was at the bar trying to be posh like the rest of them. He shouted across the room "Bnet, fucking hell, we almost shared a cell". Just for the record, he didn't say Bnet, and l haven't been to prison. After he said that everyone wanted to talk to us, strangely enough, and claim to be from Leicester or have families in Leicester.
