Leicester Under Attack

Leicester was one of the first cities bombed by the IRA. July 3rd 1939. London Road train station ticket office. Several injured. Lots of damage.

Back to the 1990 case. The IRA claimed responsibility, as they did for a similar attack on Halifax 5 days later.

Cov was bombed 25th august of that year 5 killed 70 injured. (1939)
 
First used in 1805 to house French Prisoners from the Napoleonic War. It replaced “the Hulks”.The French were put to work building it. Also American prisoners taken during the War of 1812. After they were all repatriated it was left empty until 1850 when it was commissioned as a Convict gaol!
