Leicester at Stoke City Victoria ground Feb 89

A grim season one of the favourites for promotion and ended up fifteenth.... I don’t think we won two consecutive games all season.... PLEAT OUT!!!!!

Stood up at that Stoke game. My only miss that season was in The Full Members Cup (which I had to look up as I had forgotten who we had played - Watford apparently). Nearly missed the last game away at Sunderland as the coach went early without me knowing. I was furious and as a non-driver was royally screwed in terms of being able to get to the game. In the end my Dad took pity on me and we set off just after midday (and took us ages to navigate through Loughborough). I never saw him drive so fast before or since...even managed a pre-match pint in the New Derby next to the ground.

That aside away highlight that season was probably Jimmy Quinn's equaliser at Leeds when we were on the terracing behind the goal, utter bedlam. Lowlight was probably the Loughborough Supporters Coach annual South London mystery tour... not that it was that much of a mystery, every fucking year they'd head for the Crystal Palace athletics Stadium. This time we were so late we'd missed us taking the lead but in plenty of time to see Palace get 4 of their own.

I went to most away games with the London branch in 88-89. I do remember it being bitterly cold in Stoke, and the amazement when we led 2-0 so early in the game

But like this season, despite the then presence of Steve Walsh and Mauchlen, the team often lacked real commitment.

I was standing that day, fooking freezing, somehow we all knew we wouldn’t hold on for the win.
Grim following us back then but I actually look back with some fondness to those times, not many could be arsed to go to the home games let alone travel away.
