Left and right

Going off social media the left are generally along the lines of wear your masks, save the NHS so they can make another dance routine to put on tik tok or whatever it's called, get the flu jab, peace and love, be kind to animals, we should have stayed in the EU and Trump is a dickhead.
The right are generally take your mask off, covid's a load of old pony, fuck the flu jab, hunt and kill all animals, get Brexit done and Trump is the savour of the western world.
What's gonna happen when the US of A is importing cheap chlorinated chickens into the country with no country of origin on the label. Chlorinated because unclorinated they're unfit for human consumption due to the filth they have been raised in.
Oh and why is halal so bad but kosher is well, kosher.

Say you were right about the left and right (you're not).

I'm not for masks -1
Supportive of the NHS +1
Hate Tik Tok -1
Don't want the flu jab -1
Nowt wrong with peace and love +1
Nowt wrong with kindness to animals +1
Would have preferred us to stay in the EU +1
Trump is a dickhead +1

RIGHT
I'm not for masks +1
Covid is not pony. It's real. The response to it has been pony 0
Don't want the flub jab +1
Animals are killed for food and other purposes. Not sure it is necessary to turn that into a sport 0
Get Brexit done +1
Trump is a dickhead -1

Score 2

Keep those chlorinated chickens away. Halal and Kosher are better than hunting animals to death. But they are still unnecessarily cruel.

You don't know your left, from your right...

Richard, I do not have a Twitter account but like anyone who uses the web I follow links and can see what is happening.

I do not engage in specific political arguments if I can avoid them. They are a waste of time for the reasons you state.

I describe myself as a pragmatist and a 'political non-euclidian', broadly speaking a low tax, small government sort of guy who believes in Free speech, free trade and self reliance. I am also very much of the 'live and let live' persuasion.

I am also comfortable with the idea that we need to help and protect some of the weaker and less competent members of society, one 'socialist' view that I have no problem with.

Which is exactly the point I'm making yet the old left and right still prevails with most folk.

I don't think most folk see things as left and right anymore. The vast majority of people sit in the middle. Conscious of the balance between the needs of society and the economy. The most important things are, what is correct and what is wrong. Which have nothing to do with political spectrums.

Agree it's getting better but the old guard is still there.

Yeah, definitely a sizeable number of loons on the far left and far right. Also a lot of others that still follow the identity politics route.

Most people though, are in the centre ground with slight swings over things like law and order, welfare, immigration, economics etc.

We are all full of contradictions as well. It is possible to dislike the police and lawmakers, but at the same time be supportive of tough law and order.

Strange animal, the human.

Gone a bit Daily Mail there Dickie.

I don't see it as left or right but there does often seem to be a 'type' that go for the Brexit stuff. Chlorinated chicken is down to them, but they knew what they were voting for. It's also often this 'type' that get upset about Halal but don't mention Kosher.

You can class any individual idea or policy as left or right, that is not the problem. As I have said, I support policies that give some financial and social help to the poorer and weaker in our society, ideas that would normally be considered 'socialist'.

That said, my pro Trump and anti-eu views would probably classify me as a Nazi to some on here.

That is why left-right doesn't fit society anymore.

Dorset, your views sound pretty similar to One Nation Toryism; rather than Nazi ideology.

I'm anti-Trump and only a very small fraction pro-EU. But don't really worry too much about either. If Trump gets in, he starts to become a memory in only a few short years. When Brexit happens, whatever the outcome is can't be changed by me. Like everyone else, I'll have to adapt.

Not being a supporter of Trump or Brexit, does not make you left-wing. People that claim you are, do not understand. Plenty of people on the right don't like Trump and a real leftie, could never support the EU.

Agree on help for those most in need in society, but also want to see benefit fraud clamped down tightly and criminality squashed.

Yeah I know but it's quite funny and gets a few backs up.
Agree with the certain "types"

Sixth. I call myself a Nazi as that is what I am called on the odd occasion I find myself in a discussion with 'leftards'. That is my catchall name for Marxists and others on the far left.

I have never quite understood what 'one nation Tory' actually means, the words are easy enough but I have never heard a satisfactory explanation of what that means in the real world.

On the odd occasion that I am actually serious about this, I describe myself as a 'small c-conservative', 'old fashioned live and let live liberal' and a 'christian' that does not believe in God.

A true Marxist should oppose the EU.
Don't know enough about Trump to form a valied opinion.

Never said otherwise regarding Marxism and the EU.

I spent a fair number of years living and working in the USA, much of it during the Reagan years.

An awful lot of ordinary people thought very highly of him. Like the current incumbent, really not big on detail, but positive, straightforward, honest and pro-american in the best way.

Unless I have read this very wrong, I think a lot of people would be surprised just how much 'middle' America approves of Trump.
