A mate of mine went to posh do last night in Leicester and had a little chat with Kev,i told my mate to mention the 74 semi final and how he made me cry,had to wait 47 years to win the fucker. He remembered Shiltons White Top 😢

Southwiggy, you’ve put your finger on the reason why all the talk of us gong down the crapper gets up my goat. Walking out of Villa Park that night, it felt like the heart had been ripped out of me. I knew we would have beaten the Geordies in the Final. I also knew that our last chance had gone for years, maybe forever. Winning the Cup this year wasn’t just another bloody pot in the cabinet. It finally stopped the pain that started all those years back.

Do you think youngsters feel the same way nowadays when the team lose a big game, or do they just go home and fire up their xbox

My lads lived through three relegations before they hit their teens, followed teams put together by Twatlor, Levein, Holloway etc, watched Cup and League defeats big and small, took the ride in and out of League One, grounds all over the country in the Champ and League One. All of that kept Xbox and PS4 in its proper perspective.

Yes, I was talking about the current crop of youngsters rather than 20 odd years ago!

My best mate, mum, step dad and myself sat in complete silence for the ride back to Leics that night in 74. We’d been to all the cup matches that season. It felt for some reason worse than 69 probably because I was 15 not 10.
Thankfully that same mate was next to me in May at Wembley celebrating. It certainly felt amazing to finally see us win the bloody thing, something sadly my folks and grandad never did.

l remember the night really well also. One funny thing that loads seem to recall is the hotdog stand at half time and the workers getting squirted with Ketchup. Don't know why but perhaps squirty bottles were new l dunno !

My lads are still in their early twenties (having got on the crazy ride when they were small kids). What age group exactly are you looking to pigeon hole? Five year olds? Ten?

As a 10 year old, I Listened to that game on Radio 2's Football Special my pocket Radio in bed tucked under the sheets. Honestly thought we were going to win the FA Cup that year, it was a formality. When Lenny Glover equalised i was in Heaven ..... But, was in absolute tears when Liverpool made it 3-1. Absolutely brokenhearted as a Kid ....... Boy, did i feel low ......

As a 12 year old these games ment so much the 1st semi in Manchester my dad's car broke day on the way to Old Trafford,i had a real bad cold for the replay but went to school on the Wednesday just to get to the game . Absolutely gutted took me along while to get over that and 82 didn't help 😢

My lad is twenty...first full season we were relegated to league one...he takes a defeat like someone has crapped in his shoe...

I remember going for a pee at half time and stood next to Howard Kendall and he told me that Liverpool would win...the Bastard.

What a night though I can still see Shilts in his all white gear, unfortunately so could Toshack and Keegan.

Funny the stuff you remember... the semi finals in 74 were a few months before my 10th birthday. I wasn't able to go to games at that time. I was on the park in Countesthorpe on the morning of the first game and these 3 older lads came up to me and asked who I wanted to win. "Leicester of course" I replied to be whacked in the stomach so hard I almost passed out. We lived in the village, hadn't seen them before didn't see them again. I started going regularly about 3 years later and felt in 82 that our name was on it after our amazing run...
When Jamie scored that astonishing volley against Liverpool in 2016 that little incident all those years earlier replayed in my mind and, just as I had in 1980 following Andy Peakes thunderbolt, I muttered to myself "That one's just for you you ginger cunt"
