Keir Starmer

None of them are socialists. Not even faux ones. I don't think they would even identify themselves with socialism.
They are social democrats. A completely different thing.
A bit like AFC's recent chat about his beliefs being based on Christianity, even though he is not a Christian.
These charlatans will think socialism is good from the heart, but they use their heads to wallow in the mire of capitalism and power.
I doubt there is a true socialist on the planet. Nor a true Christian.

Don’t get hung up on “true socialist” just labels do t really mean owt.
I’m talking about policies of
Utilities taken back under state control.
Include rail in that. All NHS to be how it used to be. Scrap all private contracts without compensation.
(Personally I’d nationalise top 100 industries but that wouldn’t be popular)
Pay market force wages for the top earners who can run these like a proper business but with the target not being profit but customer focus.
Move away from spending billions on weapons and invest that money in the infrastructure.
Call it any name you want, let’s just get more caring and more love towards our fellow man

I like Rayner as well. To win back what used to be their core vote Labour need people like her to counter balance the Billy bunter nonsense from Johnson.

The last few posts are a truly perfect explanation why the Labour Party in its current form will not win a general election.

Corbyn, Starmer, Rayner, Lammy and the rest. Real labour voters are just pissing themselves looking at that shower.

How would you know what ‘real Labour supporters’ are thinking?
Anyone to the left of Keith Joseph is a socialist according to you.

Calling the Tories "scum" is certainly a counter balance! But given that the people Labour need to attract back include many who recently voted Tory, it seems like a risky strategy.

I think you're probably right. I suspect Labour is probably in an impossible position due to shifting demographics and the fact that its internal divisions are unbridgeable, which raises the ugly prospect of decades more of uninterrupted Tory rule. I very much hope that Starmer proves me wrong, though.

He won’t

I don’t think Lammy appeals to the electorate outside London and he was given a lot of national airtime.

Corbyn certainly was that to the max.

I do however think Rayner may strike a chord with ex red wall voters who may be there for persuading.

I also think Reeves is talented and is coming up with some decent ideas to convince people like me that Labour may not be totally economically illiterate like they have been in the past.

Evening Hackney.

By counting the votes, that is how. Those mentioned have no connection whatsoever with ordinary labour voters. I am not talking about activists or hard left socialists, I am talking about the people who would vote Labour as a party to look after regular people and give them a chance to live a normal, decent live without the scams and ripoff of governments in the last 20 odd years.

They do not give a fuck about transgenderism, or climate change, they are fed up with the constant race baiting of Lammy and his like, they think calling the Tories scum shows a lack of any kind of class. They want a government that is on their side against the worst excesses of employers, builds a few council houses, supports decent education and healthcare, they mostly do not give a fuck about all this 'woke' shit.

And, anyone to the left of Kieth Joseph is a socialist, I include our current government in that.

Rayner is a disaster for Labour if they want to be taken seriously by the electorate. Can you imagine her slinging childish insults at world leaders she doesn’t agree with

😂😂 “ More caring and more love towards our fellow man”! This, from one of the most ‘ orrible bucket mouths on the intraweb! Oh, be still my aching sides!!!!

I'm not sure his northern "can do" bluntness will go down well with the southern softies.

And he does have a habit of engaging his gob before putting his brain in gear

Burnham wouldn't need to win the rural south. Large areas of the south will always be Tory.
He would have to win the north and the urban south.
