Just back from Accrington

Poland Thursday,Accrington Tuesday.
Living the Life.
Apart from the Passenger Locator Form and an Antigen test to get back into Leicestershire the journey was fairly easy!

Good on yer. The Golota Tifo was pretty special. But I hear it was nothing compared to the Accy Tifo of Mystic Meg.

Next up is Barrow. I can already feel a Holker Street 1968 FA Cup tie 'revisitation' coming over me. No lead drainpipe throwing this time though!

Didn’t even realise that Barrow were back in the football league.
Must be a sign of old age.
I only found out about the Accrington game yesterday morning. As it's a ground I hadn't yet been to I decided to jump in the car and go on impulse. I think we played there in a League Cup tie many years back now but I missed that one.
When we played Carlisle away in a League Cup tie a few years ago I called in at Barrow on the way to take a quick look. Holker Street hadn't changed much since '68 apart from the drain piping now being plastic!

Had 'Floodlight Porn' pylons, they succumbed to the cutters torch a few years back

One of the original floodlight pylons is still there and higher than the newer ones and is festooned with phone masts.
À sort of newer roof has been erected at the Holker Street end. The terracing has 'disappeared' from behind the goal àt the other end. Replaced by a now rather tired looking Sports & Social Club building, and a grubby gravel car park, aesthetically spoiling the look of the ground as a whole.
17,000 people packed into Holker Street forthe '68 FA Cup tie. It holds only 5,400 today and only 1000 seats!

My mum said she would take me
to the Barrow cup tie in 1968. She thought it was Barrow-on-Soar.
I still have the little stiff cardboard rail ticket from the train special from that day as a souvenir. "Clipped" to within an inch of it's life. How times have changed!

Accrington Stanley have just officially released the attendance figures for last night's game. There were only 8 away fans present. We were allowed to sit anywhere we liked and I did speak with 3 other Leicester fans sitting near me. So that alone accounted for half of our travelling support. My ticket cost me the princely sum of £5. The attendance all told at the game was 885!

..... they seem to be angling a "pop" at Pep over this. Pep wants the big cunty clubs "B sides", as he put it, to be in the Championship or League One,etc. He believes that would be the best way forward for English football. This is not Spain Peppy old boy. English clubs like Accrington are not going to roll over just to suit you. Susan Whelan needs to hit him a good one with her shelaghly!

Yes, as it was a ground I had not been to I went to the League Cup fixture a few years ago. Cannot remember anything about the game, except that I do remember seeing the late Paul Taylor outside and thinking how on earth is he going to get back to London at this time. We had a run of League Cup games in that area, I can remember Bury and Rochdale to add to grounds I had not been to before. Happy days.

Yeah this is what I love about some EPL teams like Accrington and Morecombe, small attendances, punching above their weight and still making it possible for not so well off people to get their fix of footie without premiership greed prices. 👍

I went to Accrington for that league cup game. The London Branch sometimes did and do stay over if you can’t get back home.

I went with my wife and her brother to see Plymouth play in February 2012.
We stood on a terrace that should have been condemmed.
Plymouth won 4-0.
We had a hailstone storm near the end of the game and I have never been so cold.

….now called the Furness Building Society Stadium but still at Holker Street. 15 minutes walk from the town centre and Railway Station where there is a fine statue of Emlyn Hughes who was born in Barrow. That’s worth the trip alone!

I was down to 4 of the 92 still to visit a few years ago. I've added Accrington last week but new grounds and new teams coming into the league have raised it to 8.
Spurs and Brentford will be re-done this season so I need AFC Wimbledon,Crawley Town,Forest Green Rovers,Harrogate Town,Salford City and Sutton United.
Very difficult to get any closer nowadays!

Completed The 92 Club in 1983 (Member 214). Just checked I am down to 81 but will regain Brentford & Spurs this season.

Interesting to see some of the teams on my original list, Stockport County and Scarborough.

EFL have ruled out any prospect of big club 'B teams' being allowed to compete in the Championship,League One,etc. Feck off Pep!

Some of the old stalwart league clubs who go out now don't seem to be able to get back as quickly as they used to. A lot have 'nose dived' in recent years!

Mrs E always said that Grimsby was the worst ground I ever took her to. Ironically to witness one of our most spectacular goals.

Grimsby are top of the National League so might get back soon.

Nobody should feel sorry for F*r*st or the Sheep when there is so much further for them to fall.

You can watch Grimsbys FA cup tie this weekend on red button and rekindle your love affair.
