So what's the consensus on how to move forward with Brexit.
I don't have any particular axe to grind and thus won't belabour a point.
But it seems to me the only long term solution is to unify north and south, and have a border in the Irish Sea.
The uk govt should agree to resettle anybody in NI that doesn't want to be under Irish rule no questions asked.
Maybe have a vote first to gauge the appetite for reunification, with a simple majority win, but i can't see any other way.

Give Ireland back to the Irish. Repatriate those that don’t want to stay under the same terms as their forefathers got when they went over there (for fairness) maybe slip the south of Ireland a few million for taking on our shit show.

It was always the only possible solution and will inevitably happen . Hopefully without too much bloodshed but i’m not optimistic .

Mrs AFC is from the Larne peninsular. Her family got her out of the place in the mid '60s. She was brought up in Southern Africa, she was a very lucky young woman.

She is the only thing about Ireland that I have any real interest in.

well put. Its the only way. Why should generations that had nothing to do with any situation in Ireland, continue to have their hands tied by it. Mind you, there seems to be very little enthusiasm for unification, from the Republic, or their EU overlords/ backers/ financiers.

They'll be in the EU, so it won't be the south subsidizing the north it'll be all of the EU subsidizing them, just like before brexit.
The UK subsidised NI it was nothing to do with the EU

What's being proposed on here sounds an awful lot like ethnic cleansing

The EU gave NI farmers 350 million per year as part of the CAP, compared to 293 million from the treasury. In Jan 2021 NI farmers asked Johnson to replace the CAP payments now gone due to brexit. If they unify, they'll start getting it again. NI farms are yet another industry buggered up by brexit, and so far the Tories are silent. In fact rather than helping farms, they are looking to phase out payments across the UK.

Wasting your time with Rino, if it’s not in the Sun it didn’t happen. He’s like foxgolfer on acid.

Ahh yes farmers. No inheritance tax, subsidies, big profits when selling for housing development

Which is a drop in the ocean compared to the UK subsidy of NI.(Over 10 billion according to the Irish Times) Since you mentioned the EU, they are the ones trying to stop the subsidy now because of competition rules - you couldn't make it up.

Dicky you were born an arse hole and just got bigger

So you're happy to spend your tax money (including a big DUP bribe) propping up a failed state that really ought to be unified?? For what? With all the bad stuff with brexit, the protocol, the customs issues etc, where is the benifit of keeping it in the union other than some misplaced colonial chest puffing?

The majority of the population want to remain in the UK. The Republic can’t afford that amount. And no I’m not happy about the money being spent there, but what has that do with my post

Ther is no benefit, and hasnt for a long, long time. We keep it to stop the Northern Irish killing each other.

i was responding to What? Hence the inclusion of his post rather than yours.
I fully agree that the north has to vote for it rather than it being foisted upon them.
But as well as remaining in the UK, NI voted to stay in the EU by a larger margin than total result in the brexit referendum.
So will they stay with the UK and out of the EU, or vote to rejoin the EU and leave the UK?
Over time i'm sure the latter will win out.

If you weren’t so fucking up yourself you’d have realised 1 login is during office hours but the other is in my own time

TB it’s not about voting it’s about economics. There is no way the EU will want to lose the UK contribution then get lumbered with supporting NI
