Ipcress - Cole miscast?

It took guts to replace Caine last night and sadly it was a disaster.
When Caine shared a scene with the class enemy you always knew he bossed it.
Without saying much he was in control. His role always promised that he would be
smarter than them but last night's Palmer looked unable to deal with a chip shop
let alone a booze smuggling ring or masterminding the recapture of the country's leading nuclear scientist...
Hollander, as ever, stole every scene...

Agree Hollander is different class but Cole was hardly a disaster. Thought some of the dialogue was brilliant and thoroughly enjoyed it myself .

Presumably the guy machine gunned was not the eminent nuclear scientist.
Suspect the broken coffee mug the hostage was drinking from will have fingerprints on it which will not be the scientist's.

Don’t consider this as a remake of the 1963 film. Altered plot and different characters. The trouble is Cole wearing those Caine specs which are totally wrong for him and draw comparison with Caine, where he doesn’t fare well. They also make him look incredibly young, whereas Cole is older than Caine was when the film was made.
Jury is definitely out for me.
Also if they have cut the Ross character, how are they going to rework the final ‘shoot the traitor’ scene?

Several aspects have been changed to get it 'up to date', there is a bigger part for a woman and a black CIA man has appeared.
I loved the way the original kidnapped took place at St. Pancras which was very cleverly done. Even if the station boards were wrong, placing Nottingham south of Leicester from memory...
