Most managers are very stubborn and like to play a certain way. BR probably thought he could fit into his system, but couldn't. Not saying he's right. However, I do struggle to think where he would fit in, who would he replace? He's not a playmaker, not a holding midfielder or a top number 8.

Links well enough with Belgium he's intelligent enough for numerous roles according to Martinez
 
The key is that he plays for his country. Which means that he needs regular football as international managers tend not to select from those who cannot tie down a place for their clubs. I can't see who he could replace here on a regular basis and neither can BR.
He is at best a neat and tidy player who rarely takes a game by the scruff which is the job of a midfielder and am surprised by his support on here.
 
Oadlad. We have not seen enough of him to afford an opinion, he looked in games I have seen to be finding his way
In an alien League which in all probability
Is daunting for a lot of players as history has shown, more classier player's have had that experience.
Even Pogba for all his talent has struggled to come to terms
 
So lot's of fans noticed his absenses from our first team but club's who employ whole departments to notice these things didn't?
