HR Question

Back in the 70’s, there was a rumor kicking around that Alan Wollett missed a game for us after his dog died.

Four years ago, after our dog died suddenly, I took the following day off just to get my head straight.

Fast forward to this week, someone who works for me has taken this entire week as bereavement leave after they had to put their dog to sleep.

I am a dog lover and very sympathetic, but a week off is taking the piss, surely?

I wouldn't grant anyone bereavement leave for a pet. It's just not what it is intended for and actually undermines people going through actual bereavement of a family member. If they wanted to take annual leave, fine.

Depends who the person is, they may be taking the piss BUT MANY PEOPLE LOVE ANIMALS MORE THAN PEOPLE WHICH IS UNDERSTANDABLE AND DOGS ARE TRUE BEST FRIENDS, and a lot of people are pretty orid.🤷‍♂️ When god made our dog he must av been in a bloody good mood. Seriously depends on person.🦮 As that comic Simon evens said “ I love my son he’s like a dog to me 🤭
