How much did you spend on your mattress?

I’ve always rented and as a result had awful mattresses (old and /or cheap) but I’m getting on now and want to treat myself to a good mattress. But how much do you need to spend? Prices go from about £90 at Argos to almost £3k for the top spec option at John Lewis.

Is £500 enough for something you want to last say 5 years? At this price mattresses have very mixed reviews. At £1k though they are starting to be consistently good. Thoughts?

Spend 30 quid on a mattress once. Amsterdam, it was just a hand job with a few sucks.
 
A lot. My Mrs bought ours , but it is important as you get older that you have a proper mattress. Sometimes when we are away if the mattress is shit or not up to standard. My back gives me grip.
 
Im converting a sprinter van and just purchased a memory foam king size from Ikea, 300 quid but probably the most comfortable mattress I ever slept on.
 
There are always plenty going for free in the lay-byes up the A12 I always pass on my way up to Leicester from London.
Look a bit piss stained but what do you expect for faack all?
 
I have a solid Magnetic Mattress ( no springs so the body stays in line without putting strain on the vertebra ) )with a waffle base that does not allow moisture to lay on the surface and attract dust mites. it also gives the body a massage as you turn over in the night. My pillow supports the head not the neck and contains a ceramic tile to dissipate the heat from the head, the duvet is made from a material that reflects the bodies own infer red back into the person to regulate a constant temperature, and remove acid from the body. System cost about £2500 15 years ago so more than paid for itself. It came with a 15 year guarantee.
 
They say you sound as much as you can afford. We spent $2000/£1000 bought could have spent more.

The only way to buy is to go to showroom, try them and buy the most comfortable.
