Have Boots ……

Best present ever. Can’t wait to read it.

For older Roofers, any good Frank Large memories?

I loved him as a player, but my most vivid memory is April 68, Burnley at home. It’s my 10th Birthday and we’re in the Double Decker. We’re losing, and Frank contrived to miss an absolute sitter. Little me stands up and screams “How the f**k did you miss that!”, eliciting some very strange stares from some of the patrons close by, I guess surprised that such foul langunge could come from one so young!

Needless to say, much worse has followed in the intervening years, but I’ve never forgotten that!

He’ll always be known in helping us to beat Man City 4-3 in the unforgettable cup tie. They just couldn’t cope with him that night
I was at that game too, on the cinder track in front of the Kop. Don’t remember any of the goals, just the sheer drama, excitement and noise of the whole thing. Truly epic.

Played in the November before the following February FA Cup games 4 months later. Around 200 of us wedged into a top corner of the Kippax surrounded by the Police and all the Mancs. We had just gone 6-0 down when Large decided to “clatter” Man City’s goalkeeper Ken Mulhearn. In that instant it all changed from benign Manc tolerance of us to scenes reminiscent of the fuckin’ Alamo.
5000 of us went back up there for 0-0 FA Cup draw in Feb 68 with the famous 4-3 replay played 3 days later!
