Harvey Barnes, master tactician...

"We cannot concede five goals in games. We are never going to pick up points if we do that,” he added. “Some of them were preventable but that is the story of our season. Clean sheets have been a problem. When we have kept clean sheets, we have picked up a lot of points"

Oh so that's how it works .

Him, Madderson and KDH should concentrate on their own game and never mind what the rest of the team are or not doing.

I understand the frustration, and need to lash out. And I get he's an easy target as he rarely / never sustains his threat through 90 mins.

But take away his goals, and maddison goals, and we'd have been relegated 3 months ago.

Read between the lines, he's identitying what is wrong.
Less than Prem standard recruits, poorly organised to defend.
If they all did their job as well as he does his we would not be in the mire.

It's a fair point though. If we didn't have Barnes and/or Maddison there wouldn't be an empty space (insert your own joke about could do no worse etc), we would have spent some or all of the large transfer fees on replacements who in all likelihood would have scored and set up goals.

You have more faith than I do in the quality of potential incoming transfers, cos that opinion can't be based on recent history of incoming transfers.

Anyway, it's an argument based on "what if". The reality is our attacking has easily been at the required level to stay in the division. Our defending has not. Those two players in particular have outperformed their previous seasons numbers. They are not the problem.

I will concede their defensive support has declined as the season has gone on. Maddison in particular, since the world cup, doesn't appear to be doing as much but I think that's a result of moving more central and staying advanced to support the striker. Both players have suffered with injuries and given our record on that they were both probably brought back too soon.
