Guardian: Fofana requests transfer

Wesley Fofana has told Leicester he wants to be allowed to join Chelsea, who are weighing up whether to make the 21-year-old the most expensive defender in the world.

Thomas Tuchel, who saw Andreas Christensen and Antonio Rüdiger leave on free transfers, wants to sign one more centre-back this summer and has identified Fofana as a key target.

The Frenchman has excelled since joining Leicester two years ago and is keen to make the switch to west London. However, Leicester, who have rejected two bids from Chelsea, are holding out for more than £80m and are determined not to lose him during the current window.

One consideration for Chelsea is whether Fofana is fully up to speed after returning from a broken leg. They are aware it could take at least £85m to convince Leicester to sell. Sources have indicated Chelsea will eventually meet Leicester’s asking price.

Outgoings £20m for Werner, roughly £8m combined loan fees for Lukaku and Sarr. A further ~£8m pending for Marcos Alonso to Barca.

Not sure who else they have on their radar except Fofana. That would be least £250m then, net spending £215m! A ludicrous amount of money. I haven't checked what other clubs are spending at the moment.

Telling the club he would like to leave is not a formal transfer request.

Of course he has! Dig your heels in Top, they want him they can cough up or fack right off. Don't let him hold a gun to your head. We've lost better, and will do so again. UTC

Another nail being hammered into a youthful head. I cannot believe that he is ready for the step into the limelight.
He is still on a learning curve which was interrupted by a serious injury, to take on the mantle of a big money signing needs a strong mind which could and l repeat could have repercussions on his overall play, and I think he is being badly advised.
Another season here could develop his skills and give him a vision of what he could be up against at a big London club where the spotlight is on you morning noon and night time and it could affect his play but who am I good luck to him if that's what he wants.

Different owners, same model. Not the first time they have spent similar amounts pre-season.

They blew £98m on Lukaku last season and he left on loan after just one season yet sold striker Abraham. They do seem to have a scattergun approach to transfers

In the (good) old days wasn’t it that if a player was sold by a club he received 5 or 10% of the money the club received for him unless he asked for the transfer In which case he received nothing, does this still apply or am I totally wrong about it all🤷‍♂️

Florist have already spent over £100m and counting

Yep.
We brought him to the Premier League and nursed him through a dreadful injury.
The least he could do, is fuck off and leave us as soon as he has recovered - after the season has started...

Bye.
Signing his new 5 year deal was his 'Thank you' for his recovery.

Well if we sell for say 90. We won't be getting the full amount and the amount we will get will just about get us one quality player.
Daz

I admire your unquestioning optimism but you really need to get a grip on the financial realities that the Club is facing at this precise moment.

We have lost nearly £100million in the last two years. That is real money that could have been spent on players/contracts/ground expansion etc. We dont have that money because we LOST it.

Selling Fofona - whatever we get - will simply go towards plugging the black hole in our finances. We won't be blowing the cash on a 'quality signing' or two.

When we reached the CL QF we received nearly £80 million from UEFA.

If our 'Elite Manager' (who earns c £10 million per annum and is the 5th or 6th highest paid manager in the PL) had managed to get us over the line to qualify for the CL (he failed twice), or win the EL (we didn't tun up up for the semi's and so blew a shot at the CL) we would be £40/50/60 million + better off.

The Club backed him by stretching the wage bill in the hope that we would make CL. We didn't though. The bill for this failure (by Rodgers) is now due for payment.
