There would be a lot more deaths if they stopped racing as they would have no need for the horses anymore
Also the sport would go “underground” and then you would see real cruelty.
I get your logic, that’s what happened when they banned bear baiting...

Micky I mentioned Aintree because that’s what gets all the press being the most famous race in the country and it always comes up.

Not sure there are many other sports that kill in such numbers. Apart from shooting which a lot of people find bizarre.

A lot of sports are under the spotlight. Look at rugby and head injuries.

There is a sizeable lobby for at least similar debate around the welfare of horses.

And when you have a sport that has characters like this in its higher echolons the pressure grows.

Its also a sport that doesn’t appear particularly inclusive. Look at the bbc interview with the young lad from Leicester on the bbc sport website which highlights that.

A lot of sports need to change when looking at their governing bodies (FIFA etc) but when you have high profile people doing stuff like that it hardly looks good to appealing to a new, let alone existing audience.

I suppose it will all end when people decide not to view a specific sport for whatever reasons the years go by people's attitudes change for the good or the bad nowadays we see dangers that never exsisted in our eyes, years ago.
You only have to look at Football these past few years have changed the sport whether for the good or bad sanitising for the sake of it loses appeal to a spectator but helps those involved, but when your hard earned is put down you think twice.
We are in the throes of it right now in all active sports

Leading Irish trainer Gordon Elliott has been banned for 12 months with the last six months suspended after being found guilty of bringing the sport into disrepute.

He seems almost certain to miss the Cheltenham Festival later this month and the Grand National Festival next month as the British Horseracing Authority is expected to reciprocate the IHRB sanctions.

hell of a lot of horses are bred just to be raced and as an industry it needs these reports Like a hole in the head, accidents happen, jockeys are fallable, horses have vunerable legs unfortunately it's costly to
Keep a horse with broken limbs so most are put down, because of the weakness caused by the break a horse will never race again, unlike humans were breakages can be mended.

I sacked Glover
So then, after all the embers have been raked over Mr Humpty Dumpty has ended up receiving a 6 month ban from going to race meetings? The IHRB are more corrupt than the old Mugabi government
