Glass ceiling?

Does anyone else have the feeling that there is a glass ceiling somewhere in the top three places the we cannot shatter?

Yes, I know that we won the division in 2015/16 but I would argue that in that season a present-day Liverpool or Chelsea would have taken it.

The fact that we won it on 2015/16 gave everybody a kick up the 'arris and standards at the top have now risen. 'Standards' have two components. One is how good you potentially are (skill) and the other is how consistently you apply the skills (attitude/character).

Thoroughly agree Aubrey its no surprise when come end of season that most of the established teams are in the top six. They are just so consistent and seem to get a result even when playing badly.

We won it with 81 points, by 10 points.

The following season Chelsea won it with 93 and Spurs were second with 86. That’s three wins where we lost our games, or 6 wins in games we drew.

Then it started getting silly. Man City won it with 100 points, by 19 from Man U.

They then won it with 98 points by a point from Liverpool.

And last season the Scousers got 99 points with Man City again on 81.

The bar is now extraordinarily high however the 81 points we got in 15-16 was good enough for second or third in every season since.

40 points is the marker for staying up. The marker for guaranteed Champions League football is in excess of 75 points nowadays and you need nigh on 100 points to be guaranteed the title.

A total this high is beyond us. 75 however and Champions League qualification is definitely within our reach.

So it’ll take us a good 4 years to realistically nibble at Arsenal and maybe go into 6th on the list, and that's if they don’t get themselves together under Arteta.

Still 7th is a great place to be.
