Get Carter

You're a big man, but you're in bad shape. With me it's a full time job.

BTW Oadlad, Harry Brown is a fantastic film. Best British film of this millennium so far.

Technically Harry Brown fine but the storyline is naive. It would be OK for a western in a lawless environment but we are not that.
If you somehow managed to clear an estate of a drug deaing gang another would replace them overnight..
On a general level Caine admitted to preferring being busy to being selective.
He said his dad expected to go to work every morning so why should he not?

Jaws 4 anyone....

(when questioned why he took the role in this utterly abysmal film, allegedly replied - "I needed a new swimming pool")

Blackhall Colliery beach (where the final scene is shot) still shows the signs of mining. Was walking there this week.

Whitburn thats fantastic. I thought this coastline had been "greened up" by conservationists. Glad to see it still looks just like in the film.
Most of it has been, Soho - mostly for the better, it must be said. You wouldn't know there had been a pit there if it wasn't for the black beach & the dodgy, coloured pools! All that stretch of coast from Hartlepool up to South Shields was the dumping ground for slaaaag, once upon a time.

Does Ian Hendry's dead body count as slaaaag?????
"I know those eyes, Eric - like pissholes in the snow".

Will be watching it - need to watch some proper acting after suffering that 'Intruder' last few nights - utter fkin shite

The book,Jack's Return Home by Ted Lewis, has the story set in Scunthorpe. Wise move for the film to be depicted in Newcastle.
Loosely inspired by the real life murder of Angus Sibbet by North-East fruit machine gangster Vince Landa, the so called 'one arm bandit murder'. It's believed it was part of a failed attempt by the Kray twins to gain control.
Landa fled the country and his vacated mansion,Dryderdale Hall, was used in the film as Cyril Kinnear's house.
Ian Hendry was the original choice to play Carter but his drinking and bad physical condition was such that Michael Caine got the part instead. So there was real animosity underpinning their scenes together!

Spent a long summer in the 80s commuting to Billingham from Newcastle on that amazing stretch of coastal train line. The black sea was an extraordinary sight, especially on a bright sunny morning

John Osborne's cameo as Kinnear is one of the best things in the film
