Gento Brown Bread

Fantastic player, saw him at Filbert Street in 1973

"Chairman Bloor and former chairman Lenny Shipman met Puskas after the training session and offered to take Puskas on a trip out for the afternoon and show him the sights of Leicester in Shipman’s pink Humber Sceptre. Puskas was born in far off Budapest and the bright lights of Leicester certainly turned his head. Puskas and the rest of the Europeans were staying at The International Hotel on Rutland Street. the lavishly decorated hotel was a real eye-opener for Puskas and his former Madrid partner in crime Francisco Gento, never had they stayed in such luxury. They both carried a fair amount of padding though and both were seen at the Chuckie Inn only an hour before kick-off."

……PELE also failed fitness for the England 1 Brazil 1 friendly match also in 1963 which I went to. The only games I was going to see PELE play live and he pulled out both times!

That's one hell of a front 5 for RoW

RoW were resplendent in Royal Blue shirts and White shorts. Lev Yashin had to forego his usual famous all black kit and wear a Yellow jersey. The first half highlights featured a ‘personal duel’ between Greaves and Yashin with the Russian pulling off a string of fantastic saves. A fantastic Greaves “goal” was disallowed after he rounded 3 defenders and Yashin to put the ball in the net. Only for the ref to have whistled earlier for a trip on Greaves on the edge of the area that hadn’t stopped him.Greaves later saying, “I don’t remember hearing any whistle and I don’t remember the ref either which usually means that he must have had a good game”!
In a 2003 Autobiography Greaves speaks in awe of a second half move involving Seeler,Law,Puskas and Di Stefano that was a thing of stunning beauty!

Alex Elder the Burnley and N.Ireland full back had been selected to play for the Rest of the World team but suffered a broken leg,in a Football League game, only one week prior. At 80 years of age he still treasures his ‘Invitation Letter’ to this day!

I went to the Football League v Rest of the world at Wembley sometime in the late 80's
Lineker, Maradona & Platini turned out for R.O.W & were all crap.
The Football league won 3-0
