I just thought if Syoncu and Fofana need an old head to organise the back line and cover for them like Jonny Evans clearly does - then Gary Cahill would be just the ticket whilst Evans is recovering. Then Cahill and Evans can share that role through the season here and in Europe.
I don't see it as long term at all.

No he plays left-back or left midfield, I was bit criticle when we signed him due to age but I have to admit I've been impressed with him getting forward.
