EU citizens being locked up and then expelled

replies like that are why you've got the reputation you have rino.

we're not talking about people arriving in a dingy at the white cliffs...these are educated people, coming for a legitimate and legal reason, not sneaking in, not breaking the rules. they are the sort of people who would qualify for a work permit if their interview is successful as they would enhance our work force.

How do you know why these people are coming and what sort of people they are? Do they have letters inviting them to interviews? Surely they will have been emailed asking them to turn up and could therefore show that to officials. Will they return after the interviews? One of the people mentioned wanting to live with a boy friend. You're too willing to assume the worst of this country instead of digging a little deeper.

There will have been some instances of over zealous border officials but why have they chosen these people from the many that are coming here.

And why does anyone need an interview in person in these difficult times. The company I work for is conducting all interviews by Zoom and that is just in the UK

And if my reputation means I don't take everything an overtly biased newspaper says then I'm proud of it.

Makes you wonder what the flip side of the story is?
Are EU countries letting anyone in, for whatever reason?

What other countries do is their business

Maybe it’s just me but I find it hard to believe that someone would go to the trouble and cost of flying to a foreign country unless as a minimum you had something confirming a time date and location for your interview. I assume that if you did have the confirmation you would produce it when challenged at the border. Now if you don’t have proof it must mean you’re trying to enter the UK illegally in which case there is no alternative to detaining people to avoid them just disappearing Presumably people arriving for an interview would have a return ticket within a few days

Your “reputation” is that you’re a snivelling little shit who shits his pants any time anyone challenges the establishment in any way shape or form.
If there was a nuclear war, you’d survive, as cockroaches do, probably at the expense of someone else, and as you entered the deviation around you you would say “well they started it” like it mattered.
That’s your “reputation” 👍

Apparently an Italian doctor who's worked here here for 14 years invited his niece over to help with child care when she landed she was suck in a cell even though she had id and a letter from him.
