Enzo

Following on from the chat about Mark Robins, and how some would like him managing us. Two questions for everyone, working on the fact that we get promoted.

1. Do you think that we would sack Enzo after getting us promoted?
2. Can you see Enzo leaving us for someone else?

Definitely 2. I don’t think he’s happy especially with all the background stuff that’s going to affect us. I hope Sevilla go for him.

There are plenty of good managers out there. It’s just a case of finding them which knowing our DoF isn’t easy. But look at how average teams IMO have improved under good/excellent managers. Villa were bang average, even looking at relegation before Rigsby turned up. With hardly any additions and two players out all season in Mings and Buendia they’re looking at a European trophy plus a CL place.
Everyone thought Bournemouth were mad to sack the guy who’s gone to Wolves, but after a bad start ( just 3 points from the first 9 games) they’ve been brilliant and have been safe for weeks. Wolves too have been much better this season.
Fulham, another average side are also easily safe despite selling Mitrovic. Brentford, without Toney for 1/2 season again doing ok. The new guy at Palace has improved things immensely.
Edwards at Luton has done so well too with basically an average championship squad. Even bloody Dyche has managed to save Everton despite their points reduction. De Zerbi at Brighton. Despite losing £350M worth of players they’ve been in Europe and are doing ok in the PL.
Get in wrong and you see the problems. I think West Ham under Moyes could be in trouble next season. He’s a dinosaur. Ten Hag is hopeless. Nuno at F**%^ I’m not convinced about.

For me I don’t think we’d go wrong with Cooper

1- No, the morons upstairs cant see past the ends of their noses.

2- Not in this country. His Peps prodigy credits are all gone.

You need far better players than we have, and will be allowed to sign in the coming years to play Pep. Enzo has existed behind smoke and mirrors this season. We were seldom convincing, even whilst building that 17 point cushion to promotion. I think what has happened since has been the reality of the situation. Many see it, some dont, but so many do, theres no smoke without fire. He will be a disaster for us.

Emery aside who is an elite manager, Moyes is the only other one to win an actual trophy, and they lost out to the best club side in Europe this season in the quarters of the Europa.

Don't think Moyes is the issue at that club.

The Seville rumour is pretty weak. I reckon Enzo will be here next season, but I also think we'll do a bit better in the PL than some of the doom-mongers on here are predicting....
I also think we will do better than people are predicting. I feel this style of play will be much better in the premier League because you aren't going to get teams just sitting in.

It's a good job Prem teams don't use the "high press"

Oh yeah & me.
I’ve payed no attention at all to the 50 plus efforts on goal Liverpool & Chelsea combined had at our goal in the 2 cup competitions.
Come on then, how are we all of a sudden going to stop being cut open with ease? 90% of the championship teams have been doing it.

Actually no. Meant 17 clear of Leeds.
Cheers Astley!
Wasn't have a pop, it's just I hear this '17 point lead' a lot in pubs, and I've only ever found a 14 point gap, very briefly - like half a week back at the end of October.
I think where the confusion lies is that when Leeds moved above us, the media pointed out they were 17 points behind us "only a couple of months ago" and that ended up being lost in translation to a 17-point lead to third, but Leeds were actually fourth and quite a few points of third (which was Saints at the time).

Don't get me wrong, 12, 14 points, whatever it was, is still a massive nosedive.

Have they though because if that was the case we wouldn't be anywhere near the top. Most games we have dominated it's just been our finishing that has let us down.

But last I looked our season has 46 games. It doesn't matter how many points we were in front during the season. It matters at the end of the season and if we finish top. We still of met our objective. You have to take into account the form of Leeds and Ipswich. We weren't going to keep up with the pace we set.

Our season next year won't be determined by our games against the likes of Liverpool and Chelsea. It will be determined by the games against teams like Bournemouth, who we beat in the cup.

Two other points. First, most of our struggles over the past few months have come against teams that play an ultra-defensive low block and seek to hit us on the break. We're unlikely to face that very often in the PL - almost every team we play will fancy their chances against us, even at the KP. This will give us more space to play our own game. Yes, we'll be on the end of some thrashings, but I can see us picking up a decent amount of points against teams outside the top six.

Second, we won't have the same squad. There will be lots of new faces and we'll be able to target players who are better suited to Maresca's preferred style than some of those we currently have. Yes, we clearly won't have an open cheque book, but if we're smart about it I think we'll be able to recruit some very decent players who are either out of contract or who have a year left and will be available on the cheap. If we augment that with some smart scouting overseas, I think we'll be able to build a squad that survives.

Exactly. I think we need to be smart with loans and free transfers and spend whatever money we have very wisely.

Try having that conversation with my West Ham mate. He hate’s Moyes with a passion and has done for a good couple of years.

So what you’re saying is we need St Ledger to earn his corn.
