Don’t go near Naples today

When they win the scudetto it’ll be chaos. I’ve witnessed this madness when they got promoted in 4th place to Seria A. Bedlam.


Back in June 2000 we visited some friends who lived in Naples. They worked for NATO. On the Sunday they decided to take us to this beautiful spot around 6.00pm for a drink overlooking the stunning bay. We drove through this same tunnel as that video of loads of scooters following the Napoli bus at 0300 after they won at Juve last week.
Halfway through there were motorbikes coming the wrong way. Not a helmet in sight. We eventually came out of the tunnel to arrive at total and utter chaos. The beautifully attired policemen was attempting to control the traffic. He eventually threw his baton to the floor and stormed off. Good decision. Bikes were going in every direction with girls, some topless, on the back. Then a bus stopped, the door opened and a large rocket was fired missing our car by around one metre. Around 4-5 guys climbed onto the roof of the bus and as it pulled away two of them fell off into the road where a bike ran into one of them. It took us the best part of 30 mins to finally move out of the chaos. It was like a war zone!
It’s THE maddest place in Europe. The whole city is on a death wish

I’m laughing to myself as no doubt they’ll be some American tourists walking around wondering what they’re watching!!

I’m my working days I was lucky to go to some mad driving places in the world. Lagos Cairo Rio ( where every taxi driver thinks they’re a descendant of Ayrton Senna) Delhi Islamabad. All mad. The worst by far was Iran but the Neopolitans are easily second on my list.
 
So Lazio lose and now Napoli need a point at home to Salernitana their local smaller rivals who will in typical Italian style just turn up and graciously lose.
 
I’d love to be there for it. I’m not sure if my misses would appreciate a flight change from Washington to Naples!!

I take it, there weren't too many cycle lanes in the aforementioned cities.
