do you have a second or third team?

Me and my mates decided to pick second teams and i picked St Mirren after seeing a picture in a Score or Scorcher in the early 70's.
My mum secretly wrote off to them around my 10th birthday and i got a letter written by one Alex Ferguson thanking me for my support (which i still have).
When i went to University in Bradford I went to some of their home games, so they became my third team.

My Scottish team is Falkirk. On holiday in Scotland as a child I found a football book to read. It had a thrilling account of when Falkirk (“The Bairns”) won the Scottish Cup in 1957. They seemed suitable to be deemed as eternal “underdogs” to retain enough of my interest in them. A consistent “yo-yo” club between the Scottish divisions and the record number of 2nd tier champions 7 times (jointly with St.Johnstone). A sort of parallel with my own Leicester City.
Then there is Willie Orr who after managing Airdrie 1921-26 went on to guide Leicester City ,1926-32,to hitherto unimaginable success at the time. 7th in his first season, 3rd in 1927-28 and then giddyingly runners up in the First Division in 1928-29 losing out by only a solitary point to Sheffield Wednesday.
There the fairy tale ends on leaving Leicester to manage Falkirk 1932-35. Where in 1935 Willie Orr was banned for life by the Scottish FA for a bribery scandal. The ban was lifted in 1937 but he never returned to football!

Not counting England, only in other countries. Gladbach. Cowdenbeath is a bit of an odd one though I’ve never yet been to a game.

Through a mate I look out for Brann’s scores (currently 0-0 at Go Ahead Eagles) and through another mate the same for PSV.

Given most that I spoke to in Seville we’re Betis fans I would like to go and see a game there.

But for actual support Gladbach is my second team.

Luton were my second team when I was a kid, no reason that I can remember. They were my team in the play-off final 2 seasons ago.
My second team is whoever is playing co*

Plymouth Argyle, not because of any affiliation to them but because being close to the Cornish border I admire their away support.
The vast majority of their games are over 200 mile round trips. I think for a team with a very modest history they have a very good dedicated following.
I would like to see Cornwall get a football league team and so I often follow Truro who operate in the 6th/7th tier.
These South Westerly places also provide an opportunity to make it more than just a football match, both Plymouth and Truro are both situated in good positions for a really nice weekend break.

For some impenetrable reason even to myself my Irish “favourite team” were Drumcondra FC until their sad financial demise in 1972. League of Ireland Winners as well as Irish Cup Winners on numerous occasions during their “halcyon” 50’s and 60’s era’s. The “north side-south side” derbies with deadly rivals Shamrock Rovers.
Appearances in the European Cup and Inter Cities Fairs Cup. They were the first League of Ireland team to win a 2 leg European tie on aggregate knocking out Odense (6-5) in the Inter Cities Fairs Cup in 1962/63.
Other European “highlights” were aggregate defeats to,
Atletico Madrid 1-13 (European Cup)
Nuremberg 1-9 (European Cup)
Vorwaerts Berlin 1-3 (European Cup)
Bayern Munich 1-6 (Inter Cities Fairs Cup). Winning the home leg 1-0.
Eintracht Frankfurt 1-8 (Inter Cities Fairs Cup)
At the end of the 71/72 season and heavily in debt “Drums” were effectively taken over by Home Farm. The last League game in the own right a 1-1 draw with Shelbourne at Tolka Park,April 5th 1972.
They played one season as Home Farm-Drumcondra for 72/73. At the start of 73/74 the Drumcondra name was dropped simply becoming Home Farm.
In the mid seventies Drumcondra were reformed as an amateur club and have competed in the lower leagues ever since!

Glentoran, a proper football experience.
Ramshackle ground, club bar cheaper than the pubs, everyone knows each other & that includes the players & the fact that they let me in as a senior when aged 58.

Aylesbury United followed them for years when I wasn't watching Leicester, they haven't, unfortunately, played in Aylesbury for about 15 years, sadly lodging out at Chesham United these days. In Scotland I've always had a soft spot for Stenhousemuir and East Fife.

It will probably sound crazy but I have four.

We left Leicester when I was 10 and moved to London. I was too young to make the trip back for games, but my parents did let me go with friends to watch Orient, who were managed at the time by one J. H. Bloomfield and had a very young Dennis Rofe at left back. Jimmy had actually assembled a cracking team, which also included Tommy Taylor, Terry Mancini, Mark Lazarus and Peter Brabrook, and they won Division 3 in my first season. The O’s were a lovely club and I have some very fond memories.

I went to University in Liverpool, so spent some time on The Wirral and, as a result, a season watching Tranmere Rovers who, as noted earlier, conveniently played home games on a Friday. They had Ronnie Moore up front in those days and I wrote to Jock to tell him I thought he should sign him. He signed Alan Young instead and the rest is history. The fact that Ronnie wasn’t Scottish probably counted against him!

Before moving to the US I worked in Edinburgh for a year. A friend was a diehard Hearts fan, so I did a year watching the Jambo’s. They were challenging for the league and got to the Scottish Cup semifinal, so it was a great season. They were mostly journeymen, with a couple of stars, skippered by Walter Kidd, who was my favorite player. The summer after I moved to California, Hearts played a friendly in San Jose and after the game they came to our local pub, The Duke of Edinburgh. They were in a private room, but my wife arranged for Walter to come and hang out for a bit with us - such a nice bloke.

Finally, there’s Carlisle United, because my brother lives in the Lakes, so I force him to go when we’re over! They now have American owners, so the future is bright?

Burton Albion. Local team who would have been the stand out talking point of the 2015/16 season for their promotion to the championship if some no hopers winning the premier league hadn’t stolen their crown.

Teams I have an interest in are Aldershot as that's the only football I could watch for two years in basic training, and Lincoln because my Father in Law is an ex director so when we visit I often end up in the 200 club lounge.

Scottish wise I follow Kilmarnock's results simply because my mum went there when she was a kid and looks out for their results.

If Mansfield or Chesterfield have a home match when Leicester haven't got a fixture I'll go to it. Don't really favour one over the other which is viewed as being weird around here as they hate each other!

Unfortunately, mine is Chelsea although I take little interest in them nowadays apart from seeing how much money they bunged us this week

all because in the mid 60's I was given my first Subbuteo set and the team that came with it was Chelsea - all blue with white socks!

Not officially.

Took notice of Sheff Utd when I first lived in Sheffield in the Mid noughties.

Will probably keep an eye on how York City do. Mad thing is it’s £22 to go to a home game of theirs in the conference. Im sure its the going rate blah blah but for the standard of football on view….
