There are entirely sensible arguments for and against digital ID.
I happen to be against for practical reasons but fully appreciate the benefits.
The fact that a genuine debate has to tip-toe through a thread infected by nutters creating panic and anger (as usual) is what I am highlighting.

The current system is wide open to abuse. The country loses a fortune with an antiquated NI number just not stopping people from using different identities. Black market employers use real identities and real businesses to obfuscate.
It has nothing whatsoever to do with cash.
