Credit where it’s due, Bairstow’s Century was great to see at a time we could have collapsed for less than 100.

Also Broad’s fivefer yesterday was decent and puts in question why he’s been dropped in this series, especially in the first test. Had Broad played and got Warner cheaply on the first morning of the first test the series may have been just a little bit different. Don’t get me wrong we’d still be losing the series 3-0 but these defeats may have been just a little bit closer.

Morning Daggers, how are you feeling today?

Broad and Bairstow have done well, Stokes is putting his body on the line, as usual, but we will still be lucky to get within 100 of the Aussies first innings and we still have to bat last.

This is as uncompetitive a series as I can remember, so much so that I have barely watched a ball being bowled. Being rolled over by the Aussies 20 odd years ago I could stomach, they had a great side, but they are pretty average right now and we are not even close to being competitive.

Steve Harmison was on the radio earlier and he thinks Jos Butler is finished as a test player.
Re the game, England will do well to get out with a draw.
The Aussies will have a 100+ lead with 1 day and 2 sessions left.
They could hit a quick 220 and have enough overs to bowl England out, unless rain intervenes.

I’m not suggesting we’re any good just that we’ve had a little success that we should celebrate.

@Dorset Fox I’m alright thanks, just took a Lat Flow which was negative. Another tomorrow and I can at least go out this weekend to get some fresh air. I am feeling brighter and I worked yesterday and today but I’m still not 100% yet. The weekend will see me alright I think. 👍

“Something for the weekend,Sir”?

Just had 3 days at the test, in defence of England the wicket has become more difficult to bat on today, Stokes and Bairstow were outstanding and Wood put a great shift in. The Aussie fans are fickle and had been giving them a bit of stick until Stokes was dismissed. Buttler looks shot and Hameed is not good enough, Malan and Crawley probably fucked as well. Australia are not that good either and if we had a half decent batting line up we would not be far away.

Therein lies the problem. We have nobody coming through who can do a decent job. We,’re still short of a good pair of openers and it’s the old guard that we rely on time and time again,

There’s something I just don’t get about this England side. So often we do well and get into a great position, 86-4 for example in the Aus second innings, then we fail to capitalise with the current score 212-4.

Are the oppo just lucky that Khawaja has come from nowhere and played a blinder or are we just not mentally tough enough or good enough to turn the screw and really seize a bit of control of the test match?

Even a 150 second innings would have given us a target to go after. Now it really is futile.

30-0 at the close is better especially as the storm clouds were gathering.

I want to see us draw this test, not because there is rain tomorrow, I want to see us bat out the day and deserve it.

Actually I want to see us get to mid afternoon with a load of wickets in hand and a gettable score, and go out to try and win the game, but that ain’t gonna happen.

Just checked the forecast for Day 5 and storm clouds will continue.
Looking at BBC it looks like Sydney is at the end of a band of storms heading south west into the sea, so although they say the threat of rain is high it would be easy for Sydney to miss these.

Today’s forecast was also bad but there were no interruptions.

I should want the rain to intervene but I don’t, I want to see again what we’re made of and see if we’ve learned anything.

I fear without the rain Nathan Lyon will rip us apart.
Also, it is clearly obvious we are not good enough.

We are not good enough.

We indulge too many average players for far too long.

There are too many favourites and too little accountability.

The captain is a world class player but lacks authority and tactical nouse.

The management and administrators are worse than average. The rot starts there. The end resulting players are the symptom not the cause.

Credit where it's due - our two openers actually managed to see off the, er, second verse of Jerusalem....

You always know with this lot, that know matter how much they resist, one wicket leads to 3 or 4 very quickly. They could only be 2 down by the middle of the last day, and then bang.
This side is capable of losing from just about anywhere. We only have half a test match team and two of those are on the brink of retirement.
There is still hope with our bowlers, but as for the batsmen, Root aside it is collectively the worst England lineup I have seen. You would think most of them have been plucked straight from club cricket.

I saw the latest test league table and England are bottom of the league.
Clearly the problem is much deeper than avoiding a 5-0 defeat this winter.

The weather forecasters here have got it wrong for the last week or so. Bowled well early on today and glad to see the back of that smarmy cunt smith, but we let it slide again as we did in the first innings when we needed a big push when we had them 6 down we let them off the hook. Buttler has to go, part time keeper Pope did a far neater job behind the stumps. I think Root has had enough and lets get David Steele in to stiffen up the middle order😳

7 overs lost to rain after lunch.

Crawley has done his job and probably secures his place in the squad for the West Indies tour. Nwow we need to get to tea unscathed with Root and Stokes at the crease. Do that and we should earn the draw.

COME ON!!!

Been up since lunch as I felt we were going to get the draw. I’m fucking chuffed to bits. We deserved that today. We played with passion, with fight, with desire. They can all be proud today, we’ll most of them.

I do need to mention that the crowd today was piss poor. Sunday in Sydney, day 5 so a result to be had, and there can’t have been more than 5,000 there today.

I know day 5 here is pretty cheap admission and I’m sure it’s the same over there.

Watched the start and I observed the poor attendance.
You were correct Chris, England did show some fight and yes they need to take it on to Hobart.
But... Let's not get carried away huge changes required to the structure to produce cricketers that can play 5 day international cricket.

tbf Sherbert, think we're totally capable of taking twenty wickets, especially in a day/ nighter..our problem has been scoring enough runs.
