County

Scorecard made interesting. In over 39 there were 26 runs including an 8NB. Don't see that often!
I was at Lords when Scott Boswell bowled his infamous 14 ball over against Somerset in the 2001 C&G Final. Captain Vince Wells never offered a word to him while Phil “Daffy” DeFreitas could be seen “conspicuously” laughing fielding at mid on. 2 overs,no maidens,23 runs,no wickets was the sum of his efforts. His agony was later compounded when he misfielded on the boundary in front of the most raucous section of the vociferous Somerset followers, leaving a huge divot in the outfield turf.
In the Semi-Final at Grace Road he had destroyed the Lancashire top order taking 4-44 and dismissing Atherton, Lloyd, Hayes and Flintoff (all England capped batsmen).
Boswell returned to Lords just once more in 2008 fielding a few overs as 12th man for Kibworth in their Cockspur Cup Village Competition Final!

Irony is going for 11.5 an over isn’t too bad for a Bowler these days. Saw a good interview with him recently.

My highlight of that day was sitting next to and chatting with Barry Norman on the tube before we alighted at St.Johns Wood and going our separate ways. Very nice chap “and why not”?

That was another bloody great day. Kibworth with flag flying from the pavilion v Ockbrook and Borowash from Derbyshire. Went with Dad and did a lap of the outfield. Dad borrowed a jacket and tie and went for a nose in the pavilion.

The best was 1985 B&H Cup Final v Essex, what a day

Went to that game, first visit to Lords. Then watched England beat Germany 5-1 at a pub in Euston :)

I was there that day ( Essex 85)

Went in the Jones and Shipman Sports & Social Club mini bus with a bunch of crazy work colleagues .
We set off with the bus laden with booze and that was just the beginning of one the best sporting days out I ever had.

We had The Leslie Bradman Taylor bus from the Red Lion in Earl Shilton. We had 2 drivers so we could stay in Northampton on the was back, pure mayhem. The thing that sticks in my mind was how St John's Wood managed to miss at least 3 massive game ending thunderstorms. The highlights are on YouTube

Shows how the game as changed over the years.
If I recall it was 55 overs ?
Essex posted 220 odd and it all seemed very normal. County knocked it off with a just a few overs to spare (2 or 3)

In today's game, scoring over 300 from 50 overs is common place.

Yep, 55 overs and not one six was hit that day!! Essex got 214 and that included 12 off Angnew's last over, including two thick-edged fours

The commentators on the county game the other day forgot totally about the 2001 final!. They said the last time we appeared in a final was the 80s .
I remember Afridi blasting away at the start until he top edged one the ball went miles in the air and the keeper Turner took a running catch. They had a fast bowling comp in the nets with some bowlers who weren’t playing Big Devon was one of them.

I couldn't go to that one as we had a family wedding that day, went to the Quarter Final v Worcester and day one of the Semi v Lancs, pissed it down on the Sunday and only saw about an hours play, albeit a sensational hour, I think we took 5 wickets for not many
