I remember reading a piece a couple of months after the transfer from a well respected journo. Can’t think who it was though. The best bit was they were desperate and we knew it. It was the opposite of Akinbadbuy. We took an enormous chance though with an inexperienced Söyüncü coming in but it worked. According to the journo their ‘final’ offer was £70m in stages plus £10m in extras including daft ones like winning the PL and CL!! We told Woodward to do one. They panicked and although we wanted £85m we took £80m all up front. A staggering piece of business.
Maguire is a very decent defender. He can play the ball in the modern way, has a brain, very good in the air and usually ( not yesterday) good in the tackle. But he makes Vestergaard look like Usain Bolt. You can turn him easily and he’s pretty static when he’s half way up the pitch. He’ll only get slower now and there lies the problem. He makes getting £35m for Drinky look like we were done big time.

Watch our 3rd goal again. A great strike by Vards, but Maguire is at fault her too. First he steps out to mark him, but anticipating a cross, he then changes his mind, and drops back, giving Vardy time and space for the shot.
