Yes, we all know they award this to the shittest of shit holes but little old Kov have rolled out a few duff motors and some Morris men with Pauline Black singing the City of culture theme tune - “We’ve got no faackin shops and our city’s shite”

Poor diagonal caants !

Singing?? It was a terrible racket.

Leicesters definitely not the best Soho but it’s like Kensington compared to Kov
Is it though? I’d certainly take Cov’s music scene with the 2 Tone over kasabian.
Both city’s crap holes and Brum is even worse 😂

In the world of the blind the one eyed man is king !

Agreed, all shitholes with Leicester just about shading it with the Highcross and St Martins.
Kovs got faack all and Brum is a cesspit of caants who speak funny !

Leicester is partly a dump and partly a really nice city.

The Old Town, Greyfriar's and New Walk shit all over anything Cov or Brum can offer.

Belgrave Gate, Burley's Way and Lee Circle are the pits.

The only bigger joke would be if Peter Pan Soulsby put Leicester forward ..... Total War Zone of a City Centre alone every day of the year ..... Next he is going to tear up Granby Street and Churchgate to add yet more Spice to proceedings ....

"Total War Zone of a City Centre"

It really isn't, I walk into town every day on my lunch break, there is a lot of parts that are really nice.

Not saying some of it is not awful but total war zone is going over the top a little bit.

There is a group of people. You see them comment on Facebook and the Mercury. I'm guessing they are middle-aged on the whole.

Put the city down constantly. Moaning. Fucking griping. Good old days bollocks. The older ones let the city be ripped apart. Did fuck all about it. No right to moan at all.

Leicester is a great, great city. Full of nice old buildings. Large parts of the city centre are fantastic. I love every brick and stone of those parts.

There were planning mistakes in the past. They fucked up. Some of the damage has been repaired. Huge investment required for the other parts. We all know that.

But you can't ignore the good bits and there are plenty. You can walk from the new Lane 7 on Great Central Street, all the way through to Vicky Park. Passing some great buildings and nice squares and parks.

Fucking love Leicester me. If you don't like it. You can fuck off.

I think the comment total war zone refers to many of those to be found there. Having lived here all of my life I certainly think the city centre - on the whole - is a far more dangerous place than it was. Nice buildings are one thing but a violent drugged up element about which the police seem to do little but watch are entirely another.

Sadly these elements, are in all city centres nowadays.

Though go back to any year and there were fights, violence and drugs in any UK city centre.

Yes, that is true.

Knife crime hasn't risen as dramatically as it might seem, but it has increased.

But it does seem like there is more in the local news at present. Stop and search has fallen; as have police numbers.

We need a concerted effort in the UK to smash the drug trade. Though I suspect it is entrenched within corruption of officials and law enforcement.

You serious?
What someone chooses to put in their body should be their choice.
Alcohol and tobacco are legal and a lot more addictive and dangerous than many illegal drugs.
ODs generally occur because it was outer than expected, if it was sold legally you’d know what the strength was.
Use the taxes raised to help get people off drugs?

alcohol is a drug, it's addictive, and it can cause crime.
tobacco is addictive, is deadly but doesn't cause crime.
pot is not addictive, it's not deadly, has medical benefits, and doesn't cause crime.

Which one of these three drugs is illegal where you live?

Hardcore drugs like crack, heroin, cocaine etc should be illegal as they have zero upside and lots of downside.

The tax you make on them is an upside but more importantly it stops crime gangs from making money from distribution. Imo

Whatever they're doing at the moment clearly isn't working. The taxes could be use for more education, safer drug use and treatment.

The one thing that's not mentioned much is where the organised crime gangs would into to make their money, because I can't imagine many of them wanting to work in an office, building site etc.

Anyway, back to the OP, I don't get back to Leicester town centre a great deal these days, but when I do I'm impressed by how much it's improved. When I talk to people about where I'm from, those who have been love it. Although I do live in Wolverhampton which is a proper run down city centre.

Yeah Leicester has some crap areas, but where doesn't?
