Charlie Watts....

I spent 43 years listening to him play. I started following the Stones in 1977 and have every newspaper article on them from about 1979 to 1982, loads of original singles, LP's and Cd's....Its a very sad day indeed...
 
Well I grant you he was better than Keith Moon. But thats not saying much.
I'm talking about keeping in time.
Which is sort of a bit basic for a drummer.

I would have thought that as his grounding was in Jazz ,& as a member of Blues Incorporated, his timing would have been spot on.
I liked the fact that he never had a huge look at me drumkit
 
I read somewhere that Keith Richards lead the band and Charlie followed his lead...Ive tried to find the piece but cant lay my hands on it...may be thats the reason for the comments
 
Well you don't have to go very far in the Obituaries to read that he was variously early or late on the snare drum and base drum which is either interpreted as genius which drove the Stones' sound or was just out of time and the rest of the band went with it.
Take your pick.
