Cadiz.

Ive long fancied going there, since seeing it on some cooking programme. The Doris had bookedme a trip to New York in May, for my 60th. But, as my disdain for Trump grows, Ive decided not to put hard earned into his coffers, and cancelled it. Now going to a more civilised destination. Anyone been? Best area to stay? We have our eye on a hotel by the beach, but suggestions would be appreciated.

After going to Seville in 2017 to watch City, made a return trip with Mrs TF the following year & combined it with a few days in Cadiz.
Cadiz is a City of wonderful warren of narrow streets with 100% independent bars restaurants & shops & is a great City to get totally lost in.
Friendly and only slightly touristy it is unique in its layout. Plenty of good fish restaurants & bars to suit all tastes.
Go, you'll love it.

Deffo going. What area did you stay in. Is public transport ok?

Stayed in a small hotel, Casa Patio Del Panadero, small family run place with 5 or 6 rooms. Very friendly & clean & not too dear. Near the market & Cathedral at the end of the peninsular.
Apart from the train from Seville didn't need public transport in Cadiz as everywhere is walkable.

Great city. Very Spanish. Went for a day trip some years ago when staying down the coast in Zahara de los Atunes (amazing windswept beaches that go for miles). Worth heading south to Frontera and Babate too. Was very unspoilt to the extent that they were pulling down an unsightly "modern hotel for aesthetic reasons. Camera Obscura worth a look in Cadiz.

Take the ferry from Cadiz across the bay to El Puerto De Santa Maria. Thats a very olde world Spanish town. Very atmospheric.

And definitely have your lunch in the market near the cathedral. We stayed in Jerez de la Frontera and took the train into Cadiz each day (accommodation much cheaper in Jerez)

The market is amazing. There are loads of small independent stalls attached to it where you can eat and drink all kinds of things. Full of locals. Lovely small plaza with good restaurants. €14 for a 3 course meal plus a glass of wine.
It’s got great history. Lovely train ride from Seville through Jerez. Enjoy
