Gerry,
Nice idea. Being practical I have a few questions that may need to be considered.
What venue were you thinking of? Will they want paying too or, assuming it has a license, are they happy to just make their money from the bar?
It’ll have to be somewhere fairly central for easy access for all.
Is the £600 all in or are his and your expenses on top? I assume you’ll come over for this if you’re hosting the Q&A.
£600 % £10 per ticket is 60 so it’ll need to be somewhere that will take probably 100 people to make enough, and that’s if the venue doesn’t charge. Probably more likely 120. Or make the ticket prices £15 each so 40 people would pay for Dermot’s cost, would people pay that?
At a tenner a ticket, say you get 40 people from Bentleys Roof to attend, that means you’d need at least 60 from outside Bentleys Roof to buy tickets to make the minimum target. Is that realistic? Any advertising costs incurred even posters being made up will need to be factored in.
There are low cost and maybe free ticketing websites that could be used (EventBright I think is one) but payment will need to be cash or I guess PayPal rather than card payments which may be a problem. You’d need to take payment up front rather than on the day otherwise you’d need to factor in several no shows where something crops up so they change their plans. If people have spent a few quid they’re more likely to attend so money up front it’s important. Maybe some ticket websites will also do card payments but they will charge for this. I have no experience of this at all.
There’s probably more to consider. Maybe someone else will chip in or maybe someone on here has experience of running an event?
I’m trying to be constructive about it rather than negative. It’s simple maths like many things. What’s the true cost, how much work needs to be done to get it organised, and will a profit be made at the end.
It is a good idea and I’m sure one Mac will give some real thought.
