Best Cover That You Didn't Know Was A Cover.

For fucks sake Wombat, do you know how the internet works? Just be cool and get with the now will ya. Fucking link your song you lazy dark aged twat.

Morning all. Wombat is right, in my world All along the Watchtower is the finest cover.

Having bought John Wesley Harding when it was released, I knew the song really well, The Hendrix version though, that was something else.

Cover versions rarely work for me when it is a song that I already know and like, but from the moment I heard this, in a film I think, I was stunned.

It remains a favourite to this day.

Agreed Dorset - Jimi took it to an entirely different level. The guy was a musical genius.

Free's version of a Albert King song
Thanks Malc - that's a great way to start off the weekend. Free cranked up to full volume!

Rogers & Kossof in full pomp with one of the best rhythm sections in rock, backing them up. All at 17-18 years old..... amazing.

Free were the first band I ever saw around 1969 at Loughborough Uni, was totally transfixed watching them, Kossoff's expressions Andy Fraser's dump dump bass and of course Paul Rodgers great voice. The second album hadn't been out long, that night certainly set me on the path I am still on They opened with The Hunter.

So envious Rodney, My one big musical regret is never seeing Free live. Closest I got was Paul Rodgers FREE SPIRIT gig at the Demont 2 years ago.

Pleasure Mate, Never hid my love of Free or The Faces, so any excuse to post a link...Check out Free live at the I O W 1970 ( on the tube ) doing a slightly slower more blusey version of The Hunter, stunning vocals by Rodgers.

when you see the Isle of Wight performance by Free..... it's hard to imagine a better live band. In an era of great lead guitarists like Richie Blackmore, Jimmy Page, etc, Paul Kossof in Free, still stands today (like Hendrix) as on his own planet.

Like you Malc, saw most of the greats play live, but never Free

Since moving to Canada, saw original Bad Company line-up (who also made some great music)

"There's Always Something There To Remind Me" - Sandi Shaw.

Original was a Lou Johnson record which I never knew until years later.
