Away Trips...Remember Them??

What’s the away trip you miss the most, either due to Covid or because the away team’s been in a different division for a while?

There’s a few I can think of but I’m going to kick off with Charlton. A different part of London, a great pub down by the river and you can get a good bit of noise from the away end.

All of them ... On the piss all dayer

The Dell.
One of the few grounds where I felt free to sing "Shit ground, etc" with no sense of irony.
But I also rather liked the cheesy 'Don't get stuck in a corner...' ad opposite the away section...:)

Was it Charlton where their fans were chucking programmes onto the pitch?

The game was stopped & Ian Walker picked one up to read it

Charlton away is the only time I've ever been in a Conny club, just across the road from the station. I wouldn't recommend it

Southampton away from a couple of years ago is the stuff of nightmares for me.
We met at Waterloo in good time to make the midday KO.
However the train had some issues at Woking STN where we sat for ages. We couldn't disembark & all sat staring at the Costa coffee on the platform which we couldn't get to. Luckily my lad had a massive pack up.

Fortunately, when the train got going it made an unscheduled stop at St .Denis(.or is that Paris) to let us all off.

We reached the ground just after half time & had to queue for ages for a pint, I think we were losing 3 nil.

To cap it all , I spent the second half with the sun in my eyes behind some twat dressed as Filbert the fox.

Boundary Park , Oldham.
Eventful trips up there, involving wellies and motorcyclists. Police dogs on the pitch.
And the game going on with a stretcher on the pitch at our end.....wonderful memories. But not for the Stanion Cowboy , who had his leather coat nicked from the bus.

London Road, Peterborough. Too many to list....mostly illegal .
And the Stanion Cowboy was bitten by a police dog, put a hole in his leather jacket too.

I blew out the midweek game, which was one of Puels first I think, as we were in a pub near Waterloo & it was pissing down
It was his high point; three days later Palace battered us 0-3, and it was downhill thereafter all the way to BFR (barring CFC and MCFC a year later)

I was at Boundary Park in '83 when we won 2-1. Open away end, poured with rain all game. Trains all messed up going home, took forever to get back to London. For some reason incredibly memorable!

I always liked going to the posh and having a few beers on the barge that is also a pub that is near the ground

New the Oldham cup game was going to be eventful, a scuffle on the bus before we even got out of Harborough.
Didn't we come back with less of us on the bus that we started with?

Was that the FA Cup trip ? I can`t remember the scuffle on the bus. Harborough boys trying to claim the back seat ?

Pompey away. Having spent 23 years down there in the RN, I loved the away days there, scary at times. FA Cup win in the rain, Play off semi final, maybe not the Friday night drubbing though!!

Pompey and Cambridge in the play offs are 2 of my favourites.

Notts County away in the zenith data cup with about 10000 of us there as well in the pissing down rain was a good one

That Notts County game was brilliant. I remember the weather being ok in the day, we were on the piss in Nottingham, I only had a t-shirt on, got bloody soaked at night. Didn't matter at the time though!

What about Portsmouth away when it absolutely poured it down for the whole day, Mark Robins scored the winner and the club gave away free T Shirts something along the line of ' I made a splash with Mark Robins'

A few of us managed to 'infiltrate' ourselves into the Notts County main stand that night to remain fairly dry during the match.
I still have the match recording on VHS from the club shop. My dual DVD/VHS Panasonic recorder/player is still going strong so I am able to watch it from time to time. Also the VHS match recording of the Bristol Rovers away game in League One where we achieved the club record for the longest unbeaten run. From the wet and windy night defeat at the Brighton running track,Bristol Rovers was the record breaking 20th game(despite the sending off followed by the Bunn penalty save) and the unbeaten run stretched to 23 games before a 0-2 night game defeat at Tranmere.

I was at both those games above foolishly wearing a leather jacket. It never recovered on either occasion.
