Pardew is known to have been unhappy with the clause in Jonny Evans’ contract that meant the captain, who had been the subject of a failed £25 million offer from Leicester and interest from Manchester City the previous summer, could leave West Brom for £3.5 million in the event of relegation.

Although there was not a suggestion that the clause affected Evans’ performances, the manager felt the clause was poor business practice from Albion. And he felt that some of the senior players had not given his methods a chance.

"the manager felt...."
"And he felt...."

this reader "felt" pardew was looking for excuses to blame their relegation on anyone but himself....

Every football club has had players with a sell on clause in their contract that has hurt the club when sold for a fraction of their worth.

Do any learn from this and remove this clause in future contracts? Probably not.
