Not that i back Iran with it's highly oppressive regime, but they have detailed continuation plans with around 4 people in line to fill any vacant position.
So it's not gonna make that much difference sadly.
We haven't learned from either gulf war. Forcible regime change in Arab countries only breeds more extremists to bomb innocent civilians in Western countries.

Yes its a good job we're not directly involved otherwise all of our energy costs would be going through the roof.

Directly involved would mean more than just energy costs rising. The UK ought to worry about getting its own house in order before dictating to other countries on what they should do.

hopefully you're not one of those people that whines about electric cars and getting into renewables.
if we did that the strait of hormuz would be irrelevant.

As they would if we exploited the oil and gas reserves in UK waters like any sane country would have done.

We’ve already exhausted the large easily tapped reserves of the North Sea. There are only smaller, deeper and more complex wells left which require the oil price to be more expensive to make a profit, so the idea that increased North Sea oil and gas licenses will result in lower prices is a myth.

Also it will be a decade before production off any new licenses comes into force. It’s cheaper, and better for our security to continue with the renewables strategy.

the arabs would be fucked if the west went green. simple as that. nobody would be fighting over that sand at all except possibly the jews and the arabs who've hated each other for thousands of years.
 
The problem is renewable energy is not reliable and we will still need fossil fuels to cover the base loads. Of course we must go on with renewables but we need to keep oil and gas flowing until it’s ready

Isn't that why many states in that part of the world have been planning to diversify their economic models over the past few years?

Yes of course we could order more sunshine and legislate to ensure the wind blows consistently or alternatively we could make better use of the hot air that’s available.
We could increase the number of wind farms and solar farms to help but there will always be times when we need back up and of course we need all this in place before we cut off the fossil fuels

Nuclear, SMRs can be built quickly, not quickly enough for what's going on at the moment though.
