Albrighton

He's our own James milner not a superstar but always gives 100 percent.
When you look at the dross that have been capped by England over the last ten years its bizarre he's never had a single call up. Without a doubt had he ever played for, lets say, Tottenham I honestly think he'd have double figures caps.

If he wasn’t so good for Villa that probably explains why. I’m guessing he wasn’t setting the world alight otherwise they wouldn’t have boned him off on a free.

As good as he has been for us I don't think he was international standard but then again dier played for England so who knows.

I actually agree that he probably never was England class, my point being he'd have had a lot of caps if he played for Tottenham. Read and weep this list of players capped whilst playing for Spurs, not all wide players but it takes some believing,,
Harry Winks
Eric Dier
Ryan Mason
Andros Townsend
Steven Caulker
Aaron Lennon
Jake Livermore
Anthony Gardener ( who? )
David Bentley
Not one of them ever came close to being a regular in a premier league winning side either!

He always did a job for Villa so my Villa mate says.

If so it makes it even more of a surprise they let him go on a free transfer.

Judging on what I’ve seen of him I’d be amazed if he wasn’t decent for them and a model professional but the free transfer just makes no sense to me at all.

It's all about opinions and maybe the manager of the time wanted a winger who played differently. Maybe the manager wad carp not the player?

I think things like that happen quite often. I guess there must be hundreds of footballers out there on a very similar ability level: quite good but not immediately outstanding. Some of them are lucky, end up in good circumstances and realise their potential, others aren't, end up as journeymen or disappear down the leagues.

I think it's often little factors whether a player makes it or not.

Look at Harry Kane here on loan .......crap ....played out of position, but not having a great deal of potential
But look at him now.
Sometimes potential is not seen until later years, but Mark has probably realized that use of what he had might be enough in another side

I think he was out of contract at Villa and the stupid manager didnt rate him
Thats absolutely it....Vile fans were gutted when they realised he was being released...he was gutted and was in tears...Im glad he came to City...great servant to the club...

Paul Lambert was the manager. Villa were making a lot of signings and had little manoeuvrability. I can't quite recall whether Albrighton was told he would not be offered improved terms; whether he was asked to take a play-as-you-play deal, or whether he was shown the door altogether. Either way, Albrighton was only on £8k/wk and City didn't mess about as they doubled it to £16k/wk to make him an LCFC player. Bargain.

BLUE ARMY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And then NFP wouldn't play him, because he claimed he didn't put in enough effort on the practice ground

I think Villa genuinely forgot about him. I’m sure there was an interview with Marc where he said he waited expecting to be offered a new contract & when this didn’t happen, his agent’s calls weren’t returned.

Leicester found out, called & the rest is history.

With hindsight, I’m sure Marc is pleased Villa forgot about him.

Just watched an interview on a Villa videocast. He says he was strung along all season, with Lambert assuring him it would all get sorted out after the season ended. A couple of weeks after the last game his agent called and said villa were not offering anything at all. Nada, nill, Zippo. Agent spoke to other clubs and got 4 offers, but Steve Walsh sold Leicester to him.
