‘A Whirling Dervish’

The main point was less ‘PC’ , and more ‘WTF’
FFS "Whirling Dervish" a Victorian phrase??? It is the term for when Sufi mystics spin (whirl) around rapidly and for long times which produces a trance akin to a physical form of meditation which they believe brings them closer to god - and also happens to get them high. Nothing Victorian about it, they have done it throughout history and still do it to this day. And before you start harping on about "fuzzy-wuzzies "Christian/ Cathololic mysticism is very similar in that they believe it fast-tracks them to god but their methods are far more dour like long term solitude and fasting until they're blissed out by starvation and - so they believe - at one with god. So all this "PC brigade"and "a bit racist!"shite is barking up the wrong tree. Stop whinging about PC-ness, you're like fucking dogs which can't let go of a bone - even when it's not - though the "enlightened times" mentions fits perfectly, but only by accident. If you wanna stereotype, turn on yourelves, Bentley's tossers. Now, can we get back to football and if you ignoramouses want to continue venting your prejudiced, ill-informed bile, then do it on forum other than "football", there's a few to choose from.

“do it on forum other than "football", there's a few to choose from.”

If you decide to choose this one. It’s a simple and inexpensive process ..

Wow, UD, I loved that ... Bigots in search of ammunition.
Yes of course you did, despite it being so spectacularly off course.
I’m not sure who she was aiming the Wikipedia ‘cut and paste’ at, but I am fully aware of the definition. I would have thought my post was difficult to find issue with….a reminder ‘Jonathan Pearce introduces the phrase ‘Whirling Dervish to a new audience’, a phrase coined in Victorian times when individuals from a colonial power sought to label everything.
The new audience, which would have included many more interested viewers since the England womens team success, included my two teenage daughters….. who were completely unfamiliar with the phrase.
Mrs Downes has taken a bizarre stance, now Oadlad, can you take a moment to explain what point she was making as you loved it so much?

I think it was that some opposition was voiced to the ongoing tiresome representation of the overriding majority of normal tolerant people as some sort of minority such as putting enlightened in quotes and the 'PC brigade' etc.
We, the vast majority, are enlightened, we are moving on society does, some regret that.
That's all. If you are not in that crowd, fine, no problem...

It most certainly wasn’t by accident I claim the title of the most un PC ode fukker on this board

Before the pandemic struck we had booked a holiday in Cairo to see the pyramids across the Nile and the package included various evening entertainment including a show with whirling dervishes and belly dancers. So they are presumably proud of their cultural heritage there just as we are with say Morris Dancers, Scottish dancing etc. Sadly we never got there.
