A question about this site

Not a response directly related to your query LBD but I wonder why you ask? It's a site largely dedicated to LCFC footy matters where many hundreds of 'like-minded', generally cynical, more mature 'supporters' can engage in friendly, and sometimes not so friendly, banter about the club we all love. Many people have made life-long friends, myself included, through meeting via 'The Roof'. For which pleasure I give the main driver Micky The Hoss much thanks. None of your contributions appear to have anything directly to do with the footy. My apologies if I've got that wrong.

The other fora on the site are much more niche as you know. A number of contributors to the 'General Discussion' thread seem unable to avoid the 'NO POLITICS' caveat in a continual wish to try to spread their unique take on life and world matters. Regrettably this spills over to the footy forum too many times. The Politics Forum is there for those who desperately need it. On Bentleys all that stuff seems pretty futile to me.

I think you will find that Mickey The Hoss was relatively late to the Roof. God rest his soul. The main and generally only driver for most of it was/is Mac. Right from Day 1.

Mea culpa. I'm not sure about the date of the Roof's inception but I should have accredited Mac big time 👍

Made my debut in the Secret Pub afore the Crystal Palace game a few weeks back. As I sat there with my son, {why in here ? he asked }, I scanned the room wondering....Mmmmmm . And who was the attractive blonde at the end of the bar sporting a rather large City scarf ? I hope to return some day. Have a proper chat with the roofing crowd.

I’m getting very forgetful in my old age, but can anyone let me know what the previous names of this site were before it morphed into Bentleys Roof. Thank you.

Me too!

Are you thinking of "Fansonline" which was essentially a hosting platform I think?

What's lost in the misty mists of time for me is that migration from what had been The Fox Fanzine's MB (that Fansonline eventually hosted to the point where most people seemed to call it "Fansonline", before then I just knew it as "The Fox Messageboard") into "Bentleys Roof" when The Fox packed it in. As above I seem to recall Mac was the one who took it on.

When Fansonline went tits up I seem to recall there was a migration to a 'Boro led replacement (in look and feel) but I don't recall if that predated The Fox packing it in, was after or was the reason that they packed it in. I seem to recall that at a couple of points in time we were like a dishevelled, homeless horde moving from place to place looking for a home (even at one point inhabiting two at the same time). I feel at some point (and probably quite quickly) during the homeless period the name "Bentleys Roof" came about but I might be hopelessly wrong. Was there also an attempt at one point to revive the old Treehouse name from the original Fox MB days as the board name or am I imagining that?

Edit: I'm tempted to say that for FoL and the 'Boro replacement it was just 'The Leicester City Message Board' on those platforms irrespective of who was running it and it was the ending of them that led to first an existential crisis and then, that negotiated, the need for a name... but again I might be hopelessly wrong.

The Fox was rivals.net. Sky bought it, redesigned it and drove it straight into the ground. The Sky version was up and running for about a year, so every team's messageboard had plenty of time to migrate, set up new boards and post links to wherever they relocated to.

Fansonline (Boro owned) started out well, but in the end 'old look' of primitive boards did it in.
That, and with rivals you were guaranteed a huge audience - Fansonline had all the rules of a network and no viewers, so why not start your own board?
