A Leicester legend...

Brauny

The optimistic pessimist
Craig Dawson.

What ? Who ? Why ?

Just watching for the umpteenth time Sky's 2015/16 review of ' Leicester's year '

For all the glorious moments of that momentus season, it was one unremarkable player that played such a massive part in helping us get over the line.

Recall it ?

Probably not, but as the title race came down to the nitty gritty, Leicester were 8pts clear of Tottenham with 3 to play
Tottenham hadn't played at the weekend so their Monday night clash with WBA gave them the chance to reduce our lead to 5pts.
With Man U and Chelsea away still to come a routine Spurs win world almost certainly give us the colly wobbles.
Step forward Craig Dawson.
The Baggies predictably 1 down and with Spurs ramping up the pressure on us, we needed an unexpected gift.
The boy Dawson delivered and the rest is history.
Whilst there were many glorious moments in that season you can't underestimate how vital that Dawson goal was for us.
I believe it ultimately gave the team the belief that we would be champions.

I completely understand what you are saying BUT, now that the dust has well and truly settled, I wish the complete focus on that triumphant season was entirely on just how good Leicester City were.
How nigh on impossible it was to defeat them
What amazing goals were scored
What an incredible goal scoring record was achieved by JV
Just….. what a team!
The perfect storm of not just the playing squad, but the management, the owners, the fans , a magical chemistry.

I really dislike now references to ‘the battle of Stamford Bridge’, ‘the year Spurs should have won’ , ‘the season none of the big guns were firing’ etc etc

It was the year of Leicester City, nothing else matters

The biggest bullshit in history that we were saved by Chelsea if Spurts had been that good they should have won but they crumbled under the well oiled machine that was Leicester City.
All the so called big boys should have taken note of our style and countered it, the exception was the Arse.

History was made by a team and its support
Forget the rest.
In footballing terms never to be repeated as the shock and horror of it, sent the big boys crazy so mad they clubbed together with the F.A to make it extremely hard for other teams to replicate what we delivered.

This. I'm sure we can all pick out little individual moments but the season is 38 games. We were the best team over the whole season.

Not for one minute would I wish to detract from the achievement of winning the title because it was thoroughly deserved.
There is nothing remotely lucky about being top after 38 games.
It still seems to me though that the Craig Dawson goal was a monumental and almost decisive moment in our quest.
To keep us 7 clear and knowing we had still got Everton at home was such a psychological boost.
At that stage we most definitely had one hand on the trophy. It didn't matter what Spurs did we always had the Toffees game as a banker.
Without Dawson's goal it would have been 5pts with Old Trafford up next. Anything would have been possible under the pressure, those two extra points took away any doubts.

I always remember Salomon Rondon's blooter just before Dawson's header. Hugo Lloris just managed to get a hand to it but somehow the power of that shot seemed to shake Spurs up, and signal that something momentous was about to happen. Sadly not available anywhere on line (unless you know better).

I’m afraid that history will stay the same and if not get worse on the fact that Spuds screwed up. Until my last breath on this earth they can faaack right off.
My memory of that WBA match was one of a traumatic evening. They’d played just 3 days before at the Emirates. They weren’t playing that well. I just waited for spuds to score which they did in the first half. I then waited for the second. As long as it stayed 1-0 there was always hope. Bang Dawson.
I couldn’t breathe. I went into the bedroom and switched everything off. I didn’t want to know. In what would be the 96th min my 14 year old son came in and simply said ‘finished 1-1’. THAT was the moment. I admit I shed a tear.
So no Dawson never won it for us but he made it a lot easier. The best bit was Deli Alii punching the defender and being banned for the rest of the season.

When a bcc wins the title is because they're the best.
when a non bcc club wins it, they got help, they got lucky, not as many games, etc etc
it's such bulls pizzle to trot this line of thinking out over and over again. It needs to be stamped out, forever.

Yeah, you’re right and I remember it well, that goal truly fucked any head of steam they were attempting to build up.

In my minds eye - which may be completely mistaken - I can see pochettino on all fours beating the grass in frustration when Dawson scored.

Contrast his temperament to the dons. It was no wonder they imploded as we kept winning 1-0. Bad mentality.

The players thought it was on after Man City away.
l knew we had won it that day, l turned to Bobby and Phil at the whistle and said "we've just won the league". and they both said "I know".

the draw was 6 to one, l backed it.

Liverpool because Vardy was out and Drinkwater carry a injury.
Arsenal away because the sent Simpson off.
Arsenal home because they were better than us.
