A case for the defence

Since the 2-0 at Cardiff in late December we’ve conceded in 12 of the last 15 league matches. Clean sheets are the key IMO to now going up. We’re making it difficult for ourselves as yesterday showed. If you think back, a lot of these goals were totally avoidable. We’ve given most of these goals away either by daft mistakes ( yesterday) or set pieces. Those 1-0’s in April 2016 were key. We need to do the same in the next few games

We need to stop fucking around at the back, their goal yesterday would’ve embarrassed a Sunday morning park team and the worst thing about it was anyone who’s been watching us play this lacklustre football was not in the least surprised by what happened.
Now I’ve got that off my chest let’s all get behind the lads for the final push! UTC!!!

Hermansen got away with one in the 2nd half as well, he doesn’t seem aware of opposition players charging at him… 🤷‍♂️

After 18 months I remain wholly unconvinced by Wout Faes. There was a reason he was available to purchase, at the very end of the summer window, from a small market Ligue 1 side, who had been shopping him for 2 months.

Yes, he's useful on the ball, but his positional sense is poor, and somehow he never seems as quick as you expect him to be.

If I was Coady I would be disappointed with how few starts I had been given, especially since Christmas

I thought Coady was a good signing but the timing of his injury was unlucky for him, as Faes and Vestergaard established themselves as first choice pairing and we were winning. When he has come in I don't think he looks that comfortable on the ball. Not for a minute saying Faes is a good ball player but he's obviously doing something Coady isn't for Enzo to keep picking him.

Yes, understood, and that certainly explains Coady's lack of opportunities in the first half of the season.

But, once we started to concede quite a few more, and often from winning positions, I thought Enzo might have given Coady more starts, at Faes' expense

And once again we concede. Millwall have scored just 9 times in the last 12 games. They couldn’t even score at Huddersfield on Saturday. WTF

Why we continue to play Faes we will concede goals , he is an absolute clown
Maresca picking Faes week after week over Coady is as crazy as Rodgers picking
Amartey over Soyuncu
Whether we get promoted or not Maresca needs moving on and bringing in Steve Cooper 😄

coady is even slower than Faes or have you not seen him attempt to run.

Enza didn't keep to his game plan from December onwards as the crowd were bored to death of it. It did work, but he bent instead of keeping true to his ethos, rightly or wrongly.

He bottled it, now his team have, he needs replacing for next season, it was a brave call from Top but it failed.

The excuse merchants will say we got promoted, so it was a success, its not, we are a team that as no future, we've not improved at all. We are what we were at the end of last season without the match winners we had.
