5 points we’ve thrown away

Over the last two games. 5 points needlessly chucked in the bin.

Add that to our total and that would give us 31 points. Spurs would be on 33 and Wolves in 7th on 34. We’d be 7 points off Man United in 4th and with our players seemingly starting to come back from injury. We’d have some momentum now too going into the cup game.

It’s just mindless football. Utter utter shite.

It may have papered over the cracks but we’d have points on the board and that counts for a lot.

Yesterday a bloke who wasn’t so wrapped up in himself would have realised after 10/15 minutes of constant Brighton pressure that his tactical switch had gone drastically pear shaped beens as before it we had total control.
Someone with less of an ego would have at least tried to fix it, not just let the inevitable happen & then just role out we’ve got loads injured/ missing line as the easy get out.

Tbf ESS Brighton had us pinned in our own half they wouldn't let us out. I think if we had more attacking options on the bench he would've used them.

We had an attacking right back on the pitch the entire time daz that Rodgers decided to nullify the threat he was to Brighton by tucking him into a back 3 & putting Albrighton on who has no pace at all, who never got over the halfway line.

I was as p*ss*d as anyone yesterday about the inevitability of their equaliser and the scorer, ,but would cut them some slack.

We have a completely patched up defence, but managed to restrict them to one goal. Remember last season the Scouse lost game after game at home, including to Brighton, but kept going and finished fourth. Brighton are no mugs, they have only lost one of their last ten away games.

I thought Dan was great yesterday, KDH was OK, but Youri was nowhere. Hopefully the rest will do him good. Given that most of our returning injuries this season have been a disaster, JJ's performance was encouraging. Daka played OK, Lookman is infuriating but there is something there. Barnes is at a crossroads, he seems to have lost it.

There are positives in that we are coping without being battered for 90 minutes. We just have to find a way to stop being battered for the last ten minutes. A good cup run would cheer us all up, so we simply cannot afford to lose to F*r*st. Win could be a springboard, defeat a spiral, as we still have tricky games against the likes of Burnley andNewcastle. Yes, it was five points thrown away but there are hopeful signs to cling to.

The tactics were baffling but as Elmet says Brighton are no mugs. They’ve drawn at Liverpool Chelsea and West Ham. Took a point at home to Chelsea in midweek. They hardly let in any goals and I think BR thought twist rather than try to get a second. We had nobody on the bench attacking wise who was going to change the game and get that 2nd. That’s why I think he did what he did.
But it’s costing us time and again. He’s a stubborn bastard. Took him months to change the zonal marking system. Since changing we’ve looked more solid at set pieces and yesterday despite Burn getting in a great header we had Youri on the line to head away. That was the winner a month ago. All teams can say they’ve lost points stupidly over a season but we’ve given a bundle away by continuing with bad tactics.

lf you go back to Brighton away, we had 60 minutes of awful cowardice football, terribly set up and our tactics couldn't have been worse if he was trying. 2 nil down and we had no option but to attack. In them 30 minutes we saw a teat who can play brilliantly, we ripped them to bits, the players were off his leash. I don't think we've seen anything like them last 30 minutes since, why ?

l think we all know why really.

hes an egomaniac fraud.

Yes fatigue and injury simple as bnet. It's not rocket science that our injuries have wrecked the way we play.

His heads gone. He knows he’s going and is just playing the game until July
Sorry but I think this is lazy BS. He may well know he is off in the summer but I don't agree that his head's gone. He wasn't great yesterday but better than Wednesday when he was very poor. Yesterday there were plenty of glimpses of his quality but increasingly as the game wore on it was mainly defensively & he looked very tired at the end contributing to our lack of control of the ball & meaning yet more chasing for him & the team as a whole.
Hopefully the rest will do him good.
But he seems to me to be someone who needs to be playing regularly & often so I am not sure that a rest is going to be helpful. Some of his worst performances have come after periods of relative inactivity (think Napoli away...or indeed Tottenham on Wednesday).

Justin was (unsurprising) looking tired before the tactical switch, I had assumed Albrighton was coming on for him as a straight swap. It was a big ask for JJ to do a full 90mins at full back, and their long haired full back was getting more of the ball.

So I can see some logic in the change. Barnes had been poor, he's lost the confidence to just run at his opponent, preferring the easy pass back to Thomas or kdh. And the only attacking 'threat' on the bench was Perez.

But it's not a surprise welback would hang on the back of Justin. that's two goals in 4 days coming from a high ball over Justin's head (which was a weakness when he first came into the team). That's not a criticism of Justin (my motm), it's the sort of rustiness you see when a player had been out so long.

The route cause of that goal is firstly soyunchu holding the ball too long, indicating he'll hit it long, then passing short to Thomas who had no options and lost the ball; then the amount of time and space the guy had to make his cross. No pressure at all from midfield.

No need to insult him because he may be right.
The RL team said that they were 'gone' near the end. Also that Brighton were still full of energy.
If we spend a moment analysing the situation instead of jumping to conclusions we would notice that all the points lost were very late on, so that suggested that energy was the problem. That affects concentration and decision making as well as physicality. Also all the goals came from two fresh players introduced late on. At the moment we are a 60 minute team in a ninety minute match.
Piper said the switch to a back three the subs move was to counter the intro of Welbeck, which although it failed does not mean it was the wrong move. Last season we were well able to invite pressure and transition well but that has gone.
Despite the switch to man marking at sets we are still poor in the air (both central defenders were awol as DW scored).
There were long spells v Pool, Spurs and Brighton when we outclassed them.
I am going to check the Brighton stats over the season as I reckon they have played less than us with a generally fit squad
because I suspect that we are stuck with Euro fixtures at a time when we are ravaged by absences.
It may be a waste of time but calling someone stupid is just wasting everybody's time anyway.

if the team are not fit enough to play 90 minutes then who's fault is that ? Its the managers, its his job !

The change to a back 5 WAS a mistake because we changed from having no threat to us to backs to the wall !

Changing formation because of what one player might do is crazy, and its an excuse for a bad managerial decision.

We dropped 5 points because of Rodgers, we lost at Liverpool because of Rodgers, he is paid to manage and everything he does, generally makes us worse.

You may jus want to make excuses for his failures but thats all they will every be, excuses. Hes taking us backwards, creating unrest amongst the players l presume and hes lost a large amount of the fans.

Do you think we will win at Forest ? we should easily, but do you have a strong doubt about us doing so, l do ! and thats because l have no faith in Rodgers at all.

Injuries, what's wrong at the training ground ? Rodgers is the boss, its his job to know. You get excessive injuries when a teams low in confidence and players would rather sit the shit out to avoid blame rather than like when we won the league, everyone wanted to play and would play through minor injuries.
Theres a psychology to all this and its about knowing something is wrong and expecting negative results, and distancing yourself if possible ie. playing on an injury.

Rodgers IS not coming back from this.

It’s interesting that Conte has got Spuds a lot fitter since he came in. They’ve gone from the team with the 20th running stats in the PL to the 1st! There’s something very amiss at the training ground.

So, stats...
League Cup BHA 3 matches, LCFC 4
FAC BHA 2, LCFC 2
Prem BHA 22, LCFC 20
Europe BHA 0, LCFC 6
Charity Shield BHA 0 LCFC 1

Long term absences BHA 3, plus 1 Afcon, LCFC more than 6, plus 4 Afcon

Which seem to confirm that injuries and Europe are the difference for two similarly sized clubs.

do you know ours ?

When we play at home as a fan I want the opposition to worry about us not the other way around. All too often now with Rodgers we play in fear of what might happen rather than making things happen.
