4th Place

It's already evident that the top 3 PL places are a straight fight between Chelsea, Liverpool and Man. City. You don't have to be Nostradamus to predict they will finish some way ahead of whoever finishes in 4th. You can quote me on that at the end of the season pop pickers.

I believe we have as good a chance, or even better, of being ahead of the small group of the other potential 'also rans' to finally make it to a Champions League spot by virtue of league position. I know there's plenty on here who mysteriously argue otherwise but I happen to believe we have a very shrewd and highly capable Manager. We also have the best quality squad we have ever had, with solid Premier League experience all round. 'If' (thank you Rudyard Kipling) JJ and Little Wes return in their previous incarnations I think we'll be flying. It's just a shame Dave Rennie got the boot when he did as we'd have suffered no injuries at all and we'd be fighting for the top 3 too.

I'll have a 'P' please buzz.

Said similar a few days ago after the Man Yoo performance. Everyone thinks they are nailed on for it given Ronaldo et al. I saw nothing last week that we need to be afraid of.

West Ham look sharp but I don’t think they have the same depth that we have.

I’m not saying it’s ours to lose, far from it but it is definitely achievable this season.

Beat Arsenal and then take stock. Vardy looks dodgy for the weekend, play the 2nd XI on Wednesday too

I fully agree we have as good a chance as anybody to snatch fourth place. It would make a nice change if we spent most of the season outside the top four and then sneaked in at the last moment.

7 months to go.
Thanks for that dash of realism Steve. I'm pretty confident that my predictions will come true though - as per my infallible BR Footy Comp' prognostications 😁

If someone had said we would be where we are without Wilf, Little Wes and JJ they would have been laughed at. We are scoring for fun and have four top class strikers (five if you count Perez)

What worries me is the defence, we cannot keep a clean sheet, does not matter who we play. It should improve when the three above return, but that is not a given; Riccy has never got back to the level he was at before his injury. But we are well in the hunt for fourth, only Wet Spam have looked better than us. Next Saturday will be a good test of what we can achieve.

Considering we had a difficult match 1000’s of mikes away in midweek that was one hell of a performance today. A real battle against a side who go at it 100% for 90+mins No we weren’t quite on it today in certain positions, Soumare not as good as on Wednesday, Riccy ok, Söyüncü unsure but thankfully in Youri we had the one world class player who also had a fantastic game.
We need to hang on until JJ comes back and hopefully get mo more injuries. We all knew Fou Fou’s injury was probably season changing for the side but thankfully Jonny’s heal looks like its ok. As said the Arsenal game could be interesting.
Finally I’m a bit worried about what’s going to happen to HB. No he’s been average this season so far but he’s too good a player to leave out whatever the system.

Four top class strikers? Vardy, Daka, Iheanacho and...? Do you count Barnes as a striker?

Lookman. He is really good, believe me. Barnes has done nothing this season, unfortunately. Although he had lots of opportunities he seems to be suffering from the same post injury syndrome as Riccy.

I'll have a 'P' please buzz.
What's the 'P' word got to do with it? Your opinion stands in its own right, no qualifying against the past needed. I agree with the vast majority of it & that we have what we need to be top 4 but our chances of being there depend on us getting the defence sorted sooner than we're likely to see Fofana & Justin return even if that will be this side of Christmas. Besides, I am not convinced that defensively it is entirely all down to the individuals involved, there seems something not quite right though at least since the return of Evans I don't feel like we're going to concede during every single attack - just most of them. There is a jitteriness in there irrespective of who we play there and how they line up that needs to be addressed. Any drop off from Tielemans or Maddison (both of whom have had an excellent 9 days) that cuts off the supply up front and our continued struggles at the back will bite us in the arse.

I can't decide whether Söyüncü has declined or perhaps was never as good as we thought he was. Either way, he is really struggling at the moment. It would be fantastic if we could sort out the defensive issues without relying on the return of Justin and Fofana, but I suspect we're going to struggle until those two are back and fully fit.

Just a little bit of banter me duck, no serious message intended. I confess I didn't really understand the point you were making after I used it last time though.

I entirely agree about our (central) defensive frailties at present. I'm an atheist thank God but we should all be praying Evans stays fit and hopefully it won't be too long until JJ is back in the frame given that he has resumed training.

Evans somehow got us out of jail yesterday and was immense. The defensive shift Youri put in should not be overlooked either; he won some key aerial battles and that's not really his job. Cags is an enigma but looks really uncomfortable in possession of a football and any interplay between him and Kasper has everyone holding their breath.
I'm not a fan of Swan Vesta (he's pedestrian and doesn't jump his height for some reason) but yesterday he did make some good long crossfield passes which created the time and space defensively Cags doesn't.
Little Wes is a huge miss but we have to keep Evans fit too to complement him and that will be tough.
Weirdly Barnes only seems to work when he has JJ to support him and right now Nacho is undroppable.
We're definitely improving but those heartstopping moments are never far away either.
Grateful to get tickets yesterday and the post match response from the players was brilliant. I hope Amartey got a big lift from the away fans too.

Four? Ignore as I've just seen previous messages.

I still think that if we put someone on the far post at corners we wouldn't concede as easily, just an observation.
If Kasper caught or punched a few crosses like a good around goalkeeper should, then defending set pieces might be more productive!!

He's always left that to the defenders to deal with. His dad was the same and he wasn't a bad keeper and neither is Kasper who I put behind Allison and Ederson.

I think that if we left 1 or 2 players on the halfway line it would be better. It would mean the opposition would have to leave 3 or 4 defenders back to cover that. It would make the penalty area less crowded & easier to defend, it might even mean our goalie comes & claims the ball! Also really what is the point of Madders & Nacho going back to defend, they couldn't tackle a good dinner

Kelly's tackling is getting better. He made the goal for Tielemans against Man Ure, with a well-timed interception.

Was talking about Castangia and Ricardo last night. Neither seem at their best but we came to the conclusion that they are having to do too much defending with Soyuncu and Armatary at the side of them to play their natural games. They both get forward really well but haven’t recently which probably effects the teams balance all over the pitch.

We may have got a bit blasé about Brentford given our recent record against them. I was reminded that they battered Chelsea in the second half of their last home game, such that Mendy was the motm. So Sunday was a really good result.

Actually if we had a keeper who could command his area then our fragilities at the back might not be so evident
But I've always thought of Kasper as Shotstopper not like his old man who was an all round goalkeeper

But surely he's been trained by his old man. Kasper always played the same way he lets his defenders deal with crosses and corners into the area. Plus don't forget he's not as tall as other keepers.

Coming out of the ground what I heard mostly was them talking about the Chelsea game.

I was in the middle of telling hackney that we had nobody on the posts as the ball sailed in. Would've been a simple header/kick off the line if we'd somebody on the post! Would've been the same for Vardy's own goal the other week also.

Fair enough, although I think of Barnes and Lookman as wingers rather than strikers. Lookman is a classy player but he doesn't score that many goals (4 in 34 for Fulham).

You can jump Daz and use your arms length .......some of our decent keepers were never that tall but their command of their area was plain to see
