YepI did the same. Drove down to Exeter on the Wednesday and took the football special up to Liverpool on the Saturday. The things you did when we were younger.![]()

My first game as wellOne of my first ever games was the replay vs Man City in 66. My mum mostly, took me then and I can clearly see the crush getting in and then climbing the stairs upto the DD. A cold March evening, we were knocked out by this v good 2nd division side. Can see Banks trying to keep warm in the 2nd half at the Kop end. I only missed 3 cup matches then from 67-70. The away 0-0 at MC in 68, Barrow and the Liverpool replay in 69 ( school night). Great times. Rotherham away , going into a local pub and sitting next to the mayor, a man around 50 but looked 80, drinking a pint of mild and smoking a strong fag! ‘Up here fer game a yu?’ Haha.
Barnsley, Hillsborough, Wembley and infamously my baptism of fire going to the old Den. Sitting in the new stand at Field Mill which they’d opened but not installed the seats. Sat on concrete blocks!!
74 was just fantastic for this 15 year old. Last min winner vs Spuds, that great day at Luton and one of my all time favourite games at QPR. SF was just devastating.
Was so relieved to see us finally win it sadly at a sparse Wembley but also as one of the 4000 for the SF. Just bizarre.
No extra points for beating the better teams 6After losing to Exeter, we beat Liverpool, Man Utd, Spurs and Arsenal and still got relegated...
Fair play to yer , a man who likes to kill to birds one stoneWent by car to Exeter and viewed the Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton on the way. Didn’t realise how huge the Fairey Swordfish torpedo bombers were until you get up close to one. Open cockpits, Sink the Bismarck, bombing of the Italian Fleet at Taranto. Feats of heroic “derring do” without regard for danger!
Didn't go to Exeter but am one of the 50,000 Leicester fans who claimed to be at Liverpool in 81.Went at home and then down Exeter for replay and Liverpool on 31st jan strange week and typical of our team
feel knackered now thinking about it , where does our energy go

The Stringbag crews incredibly brave. Apparently the Japanese studied Taranto before planning Pearl Harbor.Went by car to Exeter and viewed the Fleet Air Arm Museum at RNAS Yeovilton on the way. You make a good point there , I’ve stood in a pub with people who say yes they were at ani 81 when we won and i f full know they wearnt ! Must be such a memorable scoreline it’s hard for some who gave it a miss to say it ! When we got back from manu once ( HONEST) with a cracking result , a bloke in town was telling my mate he’d just got back 5 mins before us , he’d been at a doo all day I was told and he’s a well known pork pie man apparently, he’s also hard as nails so I just nodded in the background like the coward I amDidn't go to Exeter but am one of the 50,000 Leicester fans who claimed to be at Liverpool in 81.
Particularly bad Cup defeats at QPR in 87 and Millwall in 91 stick with me
I had been to the first game with a friend from school and his dad who had got some tickets in the main stand, I was about 12 went to the replay and queued in the under 16s 3shillings outside the kop, they closed the turnstile and I pushed across to try and get in the adults turnstile 6 shillings which meant I wouldn’t have enough money to get a programme or the bus fare home. But they shut that before I got in, I remember thousands of us that just stayed outside just listening to the crowd!! Only game I’ve ever got locked out of. Bloody good job really I’d have had a three mile walk home without the bus fareOne of my first ever games was the replay vs Man City in 66. As a matter of interest what mob were you in?I certainly wasn't there working on the I O W at the time long way away, only been to Anfield once anyway and that was in 1956
In the army, was on prisoner escort duty and the police would let him go, wrong paperwork so we had a weekend in Liverpool we lost anyway
I ran a Coach to all the Wembley finals and we always parked at Harrow on the hill, every time next to a Flanagans coach, wasn’t yours was it!Third round of the FA Cup part two......
15/1 /1972..........Wolverhampton away....
My first ever dabble into running bus trips to LCFC fixtures, usually away...
Roll up, Roll up only 50p a seat on this magnificent Flanagan`s coach. Departing from Corby Co-op to the depths of the Black Country. None of this steward, flasks and toilet nonsense we have today. Though, a loose floor plate between the seats stood in for a loo. Little did I know then that my travel agency would last some 25, or so, years. Golden rule ....never run a bus trip into the smoke,,,well, apart from one memorable trip to Loftus Road which spawned the chant " Flanagan`s windows indestructible".
A one each draw fought out in front of the blue and white masses on the South Bank. Met their goal scorer Mike Bailey in a pub three years later when I lived amongst the wolves. By the way...nice underpass...
Cracking replay at Filbo with John Farrington outstanding. Saw us into the next round to be dumped out at home to Orient...Carl Jayes !! ......
But, for that replay, I was standing in the breakaway Kop in the Pop side. It came about as a reaction to the penning in the Kop. Lasted for one season and caused a split in the vociferous home support. Two Kops that year....And a bit of a fall out down Filbert Street. Some part of our history that doesn`t get mentioned too often. Would love to hear other memories of that period.
I could write a book about our bus trips from North Northamptonshire into the football wildernesses of England. The wellies trip to the Oldham cup tie stands out, as does the "Parade" magazine trip to the Baseball Ground.........how many times was that game at Boundary Park postponed...........over twenty I think . Must be a record in the history of our club. I got into trouble with the Corby Steelworks switchboard for requesting an Oldham phone number so many times.........I did survive to live off a Golden Final salary scheme British Steel pension.....
Did you drink in The Castle. I used to park up on the hill and catch a tube to Wembley Park.I ran a Coach to all the Wembley finals and we always parked at Harrow on the hill, every time next to a Flanagans coach, wasn’t yours was it!
My first FA Cup game was Jan 79 v Norwich, the day of Weller in his white tights.
Yes it was. Our first coach trip to Wembley for the Blackburn game saw our coach break down in that car park. Had to use underground to continue to stadium. Lightbulb moment. All trips to Wembley thereafter we left the coach at Harrow.I ran a Coach to all the Wembley finals and we always parked at Harrow on the hill, every time next to a Flanagans coach, wasn’t yours was it!
Very valid point.Definitely a dumbed down tournament now, even QPR will rest players Saturday.
I was there and have hated Spurs ever since! The 82 defeat at Villa Park made that summer miserable!
We're all older and we'd had the excitement of winning the PL and CL football but I can assure you I was just as excited at being there and winning it as my 16 year old lad was.As excited as i was at our win to finally get that monkey off our back it still didn't feel like it would've done in 74 or 82.
Did the same, only managed to talk the driver into going to Liverpool with the line 'how often do you get the chance to see 8 goals in a game?'. Unbelievable result.Went at home and then down Exeter for replay and Liverpool on 31st jan strange week and typical of our team

Yeah went all 3 great games , embarrassingly I’m sure the first and third games were our 2 best attendances of that season at filboMy FA Cup baptism was at Filbert Street, but it didn't involve Leicester. I had a paperround so I couldn't go to Saturday games but I went to those three Arsenal V Sheff Wed 3rd round replays in 1979. Wednesday were in Division Three at the time. The 3-3 was such a great game. Arsenal went on to win the Cup but they never had a tougher battle than that.
Here's a few Cup memories if you didn't catch them last year:

Our pre match drinking den was the Wealdstone Ex Servicemen`s Club. Known to us in Corby for trips to England v Scotland home internationals. After a game we would meet in the Railway pub prior to journey home. Until it caught fire.......whilst we were at Wembley that day.
The good folk of Harrow and Wealdstone put up a roadside banner welcoming Leicester fans for our last trip to the "old" stadium, v Tranmere.
Nice touch that....
No we drank in the moon on the hill the first couple of times, then found a bar further down the road which just looked like a shop front, I can’t remember the name but they always made us very welcomeDid you drink in The Castle. I used to park up on the hill and catch a tube to Wembley Park.
Come on. We were mid table Div 2 facing a Div 1 side who were cup holders. That was a bridge too far. OK to hate Spurs though. Haven't forgiven them for crocking Len Chalmers in the 61 Final.I was there and have hated Spurs ever since!![]()

I like your "becoming a contender again"I suppose I was lucky to start supporting City in 1959. After a close escape at the end of that first season we we were never in relegation trouble for the next 10 years so it wasn't a question of having a good cup run. I honestly thought we had a chance of winning the damn thing and anything less was a disappointment. Same applied in the 70s and in the late 90s. When we were a struggling team - as we are now - in whatever division, I could never see us winning it so my view was why bother? Just concentrate on becoming a contender again which we were under MON, Puel and TCR. Not just now though.
