I think the best film of this era was Scandal, starring Jeremy Irons, set around the Profumo Affair and government sex scandals

Made less than 20 years ago but really capturs swinging London, and the early American soul & blues and caribbean reggae from the new immigrants
 
Noticed the newspaper headline Cowdreys Caribbean Comeback. It must refer to the 1967 Port of Spain Fourth Test. Colin Cowdrey scored 148 and 71 in that match. After West Indies scored 526/7,England replied with 404. Gary Sobers declared the WI 2nd Innings far too early at 92/2. England scored the 215 needed to win in 165 minutes to win by 7 wickets with a mere 3 minutes to spare. No West Indies captain has made such a reckless declaration ever since!
This was the Tour when the Second Test of the series at Kingston had been held up by a crowd riot with bottles raining down onto the outfield.
Spinner Fred Titmus also lost 4 toes caught in a swimming accident with a boat propeller!
 
Wonderful. By the late 60s I was living in west London (Queensgate), that film was very familiar.

Taking the girls to Biba in Church St on a Saturday, blokes sat among a huge pile of cushions on the floor with the girls flitting back and forth to the changing rooms and showing off often very scanty outfits.

Kensington High St up to Notting Hill Gate was our area, rather than the Kings Rd, live music wise it was mainly 'Wine bar style' hippy stuff, not really my thing.
 
great insite into the Swinging Sixties and my visit to Carnaby Street to buy Gear !!

My wife worked at SM Oswin up the Highfields and made clothes for Biba and all the Boutiques down the Smoke

Think you mean John Hurt? I really liked that film. And even Mrs Filbo can just about tolerate the Pet Shop Boys stuff with Dusty from it.
Oh, and it was over 30 years ago now... :geek:
 
Sort of similar, Joe Meek along with The Outlaws getting busted in Leicester Square for a publicity stunt - 1961. Short but sweet!
